My wife has been researching the Kennesaw area on the web and discovered a law dating back to the 80's that says head of households must own a fire arm. What do you guys know about this?

If you need one to pass the owners test, I'm sure someone on this site maybe...just might...possibly, have ONE extra firearm that they could loan you :roll

From what I've heard, it's the law, but not really enforced.

I don't know about enforcement either but I never heard a a mandatory gun law. I thought it was pretty cool. Web says it was to decrease crime/theft and statistics proved it went down after the law passed. Just thought is was a cool law.

Yes, the city requires it's citizens to own a firearm and ammunition. It was put into effect in the 80s and has shown a decrease in violent crime, not that there is much here anyway. It is not enforced. I live in the city limits, and of course am in compliance.

Yeah, I live outside any city limits, but my mailing address says "Marietta" so I'm not bound by the law, but my Uncle, who is NOT a gun owner, lives inside Kennesaw. When I asked if he'd ever had to prove he had a gun he just laughed and said "No."
As Ryan said, there seems to be statistics to indicate it helped with crime, but it's not like there was much to worry about to begin with. But Kennesaw is a great area. Well, everything except Barret Pkwy...but I just hate that place for the traffic

In 1982 the city passed an ordinance [Sec 34-21][13]
(a) In order to provide for the emergency management of the city, and further in order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition therefore.
(b) Exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who suffer a physical or mental disability which would prohibit them from using such a firearm. Further exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who are paupers or who conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine, or persons convicted of a felony.
