Sparky Anderson in Hospice

One of the great baseball managers has dimentia and has been placed in a hospice. Sad to hear that. Sparky lives in Thousand Oaks and was in the news regularly in our area.... Great manager and person. He was such a nice guy he would even attend Dallas Cowboy pre-season practices in Oxnard.

Dimentia .... Such an unworthy illness!!

My dade died with this illness. He was a tall and strong guy and seeing him go down by this disease , It breaks your heart.Believe me.

I was 9 yrs old and lived in Baltimore in 1970. My Dad and I went to all the home games that year. I will never forget the Big Red Machine and how that World Series played out. I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

Sparky was a helluva coach and good guy.

RIP

My wife had told me he passed a day after he was admited to a Hospice. I find that odd and indeed sad. God bless Sparky!

ESPN is reporting he died at home. I dont think he was ever "admitted" to a hospice. He was put into hospice care, meaning they just tried to make him comfortable in his last hours.

Hospice care is actually a great thing. It allows people to die at home with family and in as little pain as possible instead of a hospital room.

My Grandfather died at his home in 1991 with Hospice care. He was at peace the last week knowing he was at home.
