Seagulls in the Steering Column

About a year or so ago , I acquired a squeak while turning that sounds like seagulls in the steering column. Has anyone else experienced this and found a good way to remedy (or exorcise the demon birds)?

I'm sure this is a lubrication issue that isn't included in the service manual since it only needs attention every 40 years or so. I'm thinking it might use graphite for lubricant??

Just be sure never to put your head below the steering wheel, so you can avoid the seagull droppings.

Disconnect the battery and remove the steering wheel. Put some dielectric grease over the back hub of the steering wheel where the horn prongs rub, and put some grease on the horn prong tips. Re-assemble and you'll be sea-gull free.

Thanks Midlife!

You got me thinking - I bet this is self-inflicted. I restored my steering wheel a while back. I bet I cleaned it too well. The timing would seem to fit too...

Too bad we don't have an emoticon shooting itself in the foot, but I guess those guys don't have feet anyway.
