Seat pans

Has anyone welded weld nuts under the holes and used Allen head bolts to bolt down the seat tracks?
I am about to put in new seat pans and was thinking about if this might work or not.

No reason why it shouldn't work. I would reinforce the area around the bolt hole by welding on a large flat washer and then the nut. Check to be sure the allen bolt will allow full track operation prior to starting.

Yeah that is what I was wondering about, if the allen bolt would stick up too much. Maybe I will look at button head allens as well.

Personally I would not do that. I think it is far more important to have the adjustibility of the seat pan hole diameters. Doing what you are thinking will probably make it more difficult to install the seats especially after you install the carpet, insulation, etc.

+ 1 That's what I was thinking

I'm thinking the allen head bolts are probably too tall to allow the seat to slide. Be sure to check that before anything else.

I would have to check dimensions, I see an 3/8-16 Allen button head has a height of 0.199" and diameter of 0.656". That might fit :confu

Are you installing new seat pans and wanting to weld them from the back side? Either way I don't see why it would not work. What about the access holes underneath ? Rich.

New floor pans and new seat pans. I was thinking out loud to see if anyone did this.
I would weld in weld nuts underneath before I put the seat pans in. The bolts on my seat tracks are a bit long for me so I was weighing my options.

That looks really similar to the stainless carriage bolts I'm using and might work great if the head fits down inside the track. With the carriage bolts I used, I had to grind two sides flat so they would work.

Just make sure you have the seat tracks on the seat and the seat sitting on the seat riser tightened down before welding the nuts on.

I did exactly this on my 67. I then welded up the holes in the floor pan as i had no need for them.

I am using Scat Procar seats and i have test fitted both seats and they both work fine.
