Don't know where to begin except to say the more I started tearing into the Cleveland that was rebuilt 8+ years ago and never finished being assembled, the more I started to question how reliable this motor was going to be. After consulting with a couple
local engine guru's and going over what the engine had for cam, rings, valves, I decided to have it all redone. Well almost all.
Basically it now has:
1. Kept original pistons, but replaced to better rings.
2. Custom Isky Cam for better low end street usage.
3. 1 piece SS valves with new guide seats, etc.
4. It's original 4v closed chamber heads fully ported
5. Yella Terra's Street Terra-2015 roller rockers which are strictly bolt on with no head machining required.
6. Comp Cam push rods
I learned of the builder, Dave Haver of San Mateo, a couple years ago but lost his info until I was talking to another local mechanic
about the engine who mentioned his name. Dave specializes in racing motors but is finding himself doing more and more street motors. On weekends he's a crew chief at Infinion Raceway for a couple local teams.
We got along very well during Clevo's rebuild and I think I'll be very happy with the results. When the time comes, Dave will be hands on to break in the cam on startup day.
There are a few minor items I need to get to finish the motor but the remaining big ticket items are:
Carb - Dave is going to supply me with one of his rebuilt Holley 600 or 650
Ignition - I'm going MSD with separate box
Exhaust - Who knows......Last night I listened to 2 Clevelands motors, one with full length Hooker headers and another with stock exhaust manifolds. Loved the sound of the stock manny system.
Yesterday afternoon just when I was getting ready to lock up the shop after helping KBMWRS do his breaks, I get the call that the motor is ready to come home. Hell, can't go home now, so I waited.
