Shelby Quick Steer Pitman Arm on a 67?

Do any of you suspension experts (john @ orp?) out there know if it's possible to install a 65/66 quick steer pitman arm onto a 67/68 manual steering linkage?

Goal: I'd like the advantages of having a 65/66 Shelby quick steer pitman arm in my 67.

From what I've researched, the 65/66 Shelby quick steer pitman arm connects to a 1" sector shaft on the steering box, while the stock 67/68 pitman arm connects to a 1 1/8" sector shaft on the steering box.

If I purchased the Borgeson power steering unit with a 1" sector shaft, the 65/66 Shelby quick steer pitman arm will bolt directly to the Borgeson PS unit. But is it possible to bolt the 65/66 Shelby quick steer pitman arm to 67/68 manual steering linkage?

I believe the pitmans are completely different. IIRC, the '65-66 pitman arm is just a piece of steel with two holes in it, while the '67 pitman has a ball joint on one end that goes into the center link.

I could be wrong, though.

It is possible by using the quick steer idler and pitman arm, as well as a 65-66 drag link/inner tie rods.
BUT DO NOT DO THIS!
You will have an uncorrectable amount of bumpsteer.

Thanks for the education guys.

Sounds like it would be way too expensive to get a Shelby quick steer setup... because I'd have to go out and buy a 65 or 66 Mustang! I'll stick with what I've got going with my 67.

You could do what I'm doing and just go out and get a p/s gearbox. 4 turn instead of 5 turn:)

Which box are you getting?... the Borgeson unit? I'd love to hear more details.

Sorry, I picked up a '68 Mustang p/s unit. So it's not going to actually be p/s, just a quicker ratio than the 5 turn box I have now.

I can't use the Borgeson unit because the p/s hoses on that interfere with the stock clutch linkage. Besides, I don't feel a need for actual power assist:)

Oh, got it. Currently, I have a 16:1 Flaming River manual steering box, and it's great at speed. However, it would be nice to have power assist for slow maneuvering and/or autocross events.

You must have the muscle power to handle it!

LOL. With the big wheel and roller idler, I don't have any problems whatsoever with my 5 turn box. Parallel parking is only a nuisance because I have to turn the wheel so many times. I can live with increased effort if it gives me quicker steering.
