Shock Tower Dent

Is there a reason for the dent in the shock tower on the passenger side shock tower on a 1965 66?

It's a remnant design from earlier years when engines had a generator, which was much longer than the alternator.

.......and here I thought it was that boulder which the fan flung up and against the shock tower. No? Seriously, though we have a 65, I never thought about that dent's orgin.

just saw this post and i gotta tell you i hate 65/66 shock towers!! i'm cutting my down for more room and a cleaner look and still useing the stock suspension execpt for GW uppers....

well my shock tower mod is comeing along good! i'll have pics soon, and what is nice is i can drop motor/trans/headers all in at the same time! and still useing 98% stock stuff.....you can even add in a BB ?? Jim :thu

The dent on the right shock tower was for the air cleaner snorkel.
