Shoplifter injured in Augusta

I goggled this story and found nothing to disprove it, but I do hope that is is true.

Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Georgia, told police he observed a male customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveillance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket.... When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.

Outside on the sidewalk were four Marines collecting toys for the "Toys for Tots" program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of the Marines, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back; the injury did not appear to be severe.

After Police and an ambulance arrived at the scene Cpl. Duggan was transported for treatment.

The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw...injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off of the curb after stabbing the Marine.

Now that was a well written Police report.

You'd be surprised how many inmates fall from their bunk.....Hehehehe

I am glad to see he got what he deserved!

Glad Tyrone got what was coming to him. No doubt he will now sue Best Buy for injures from falling off the curb.

We in law enforcement call that "force necessary to detain". I had one shoplifter call (ironically, right next door to a Best Buy!), where two took off running. I chased one down and returned to the store with him. A guy in a blue windbreaker showed up several minutes later with the other in tow. Thing is, the other bad guy's shirt was SHREDDED! The guy in the windbreaker asked me, "you chasing this one too?". When I said yes, he turned him over then introduced himself, presenting his badge and credentials. Well thank you Mr. Deputy U.S. Marshall!! Dunno WHAT the Marshall did to him to shred that shirt, but he sure was cooperative after that! :thu

I need those marines outside my store. Damn shoplifting SOBs need to dealt with.

Hope it's true...shoplifters suck!

+1 re: the comment about the a-hole will probably sue Best Buy though and he'll probably win. My boss used to work for a large agricultural business prior to coming on board here. He told me a story about one time they had a guy that worked at the ranch driving too fast in a company truck on the ranch and drunk (or high?) as cooter brown. He ran off the road, sued the ranch and their lead counsel settled out of court. People take no responsibility for their own stupid actions these days and there is always an ambulance chaser waiting in the wings at the ER entrance.

I worked at Kroger for a year and a half in high school and helped the manager tackle more than one shop lifter that tried to run for it. It was pretty much a daily event. You'd be surprised where people try to stuff a package of steak :barf1

Many places.....businesses......feel it is easier, cheaper, and less harmful to pay off a trivial lawsuit and stay out of court. I know some individuals in Az. that used to do the slip and fall for a living and that was the reason it worked... They are now in a situation where their freedom to wonder has been curtailed.
