Shorty Header Ideas

DEL65

Of The Morons
MY new Hooker Comp long tubes are hanging pretty low. I have about 3" ground clearance. I have grown tired of crossing speed bumps and driveways at an angle. The last straw occurred when I let my buddy take it for a spin. We were coming to an intersection and as we turned right, the RF tire went over the corner storm drain. Problem is, the grate was recessed into the pavement a few inches, so the pipes hit the pavement. Clang!

What shorty header brands/part #'s can I consider that are in the same price rage as my $150 Hookers? It is also my understanding that there is only a mild performance decrease with shorty's. Is this correct ? Thanks for the info.

I am using JBA shorty headers and like them. They have a nice finish and fit well. They are quite a bit more than the ones above though.

An option that you might need to consider is changing the Zbar as I did with Shag. With the original Zbar vs Cleveland exhaust manifold, the lower arm of the zbar was right in the way, slicing right through the middle. Thus I got a 70 mach I Zbar which the lower arm is relocated.

Shheeesh. Thanks for all the info guys. I had no idea there was a Z-bar clearance issue, Clarence. I have the 1966 adjustable bottom clutch rod/thingy, so I can move the Z-bar around a little. Also, Craig's idea of swapping or modding a Z-bar has potential.

I have a set of Heddman shorty headers on a 65 fastback 302 sounds good and I like the ball socket collector connection no leaks :guns

+1, they fit great.

I've seen the Patriot midlengths on Steve's '69 (SellersRodShop) and he was impressed with them for the price. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pte-h ... /make/ford

If I had my choice I'd probably prefer a ball/socket vs. gasket connection though.

correct. great fit & plenty of room. i dont have any issues with the collector gaskets as i've changed out all of my vehicles to the mr gasket "deadsoft" aluminum gaskets. no problems there anymore...

You might call Stan at FPA, his single flange headers workmanship is fantastic.
Typical issues with removing z-bar for installation...
I have ceramic coated FPA's on the Boss, but clearance is excellent, though the $$ might be a bit more than you are looking to pay, ($150 range)...

Hi Robert, thanks for the pics. As I suspected, there's no way a z-bar can clear the headers. Bummer.
