signature pictures

Why do signature pictures sometimes not show up in posts? I've noticed them missing in some threads. Forum software do this? Not a big deal, but curious as to why.

We chose this option so the page length does not go on forever since we display 25 posts per page.
The sig will show the first time you post or reply in a thread.

not wanting to hijack the OPs thread but is there a way to go to the first unread post in a thread so you don't have to scroll through the entire post trying to find where you left off.

If you click on the "new" icon just to the right of the topic, it will take you to the first unread post.
