Since we're talking new shoes....MB Old School

I'd been getting some requests for pics, so I finally got around to snapping a few. The pics are just of the 17x9.5 rear. I got 17x8 fronts, too.
I'm leaning towards 235/45-17 front tire and 265/40-17 rears. These are for a '67 notchback. Don't want to get too heavy on the body mods or suspension mods for now to get nearly as aggressive as buening. But I wish I could.

Any thoughts on the tire sizes? I want to keep a short side wall and keep the face of the sidewall close to the edge of the wheel. But I realize this doesn't give me much rake....may not be such a bad thing, as I'm going for a modded vintage trans am/terlingua setup.

I always get a laugh comparing the new wheels/tires to the factory 14" wheels with 195/75-14 tires I'm wanting to replace.

Man I love deep dish wheels. I can't lend any help with the tire size, but did those wheels come painted like that or did you have them painted? What brand/model?

Very nice! What is the backspace on those rear wheels? IMO the 275/40/17 tire is probably a bit easier to find than the 265 (or at least more choices) and should still fit in easily. I don't think the 67/68 rear wheelhouses are any smaller than the 69/70 but I could be wrong.

One other thing, I found out that my rims don't have any kind of clear on the polished lips. Check with America's Tire to see if they know, but if not you should put some kind of metal protectant on there. Water will etch that aluminum eventually and you'll have no fun polishing them out. I'm looking into Sharkhide protectant, but its a bit pricey. Sure beats 4 hours of polishing a couple times a year though!

ok, so i decided to pull the wheels out and put them on the car to get a feel of clearance issues. i think i'm good to go, with only needing some rear fender rolling. also, i think i've got some good clearance at the inside of the wheel and i don't think i'll have any contact issues. 17x9.5 with 5.50 backspace. given the clearance near the fender, i'll stick to my initial 265/40-17 tire....may look at a 255/40, but i'll measure again. thoughts?

here's a glimpse of the "new" rear look. i'm not sure if i like the exhaust and will consider changing to some rear turndowns that exit just before the rear valance. i may also just bite the bullet and get the tires....weather's too nice not to drive!

Why not get a GT valance with exhaust cutouts? Love the look of the wheels BTW. How about a side view of the wheels?

oddly, i've always been privy to the non-gt valance. nothing against them, i think it's just a cleaner look. here's a side shot, next to the current 14" and 195/75-14 setup...

FINALLY!! rear tires were on back order for a month, but the tire guy was nice enough to hold the set, so i could take advantage of a 'grand opening' promotion....anyhow, mounted the new wheels/tires and they fit really nicely. i apologize for the quality of the pics as they're while the car was in the garage....it was raining today. i'll get outside pics later and post again. in case anyone's wondering....they're 17x8 fronts, 4.5 backspace, 17x9.5 rears, 5.5 backspace.....235/40 fr, 265/40 rr

got home too late to take advantage of the sunset, but i tried to get a decent pic of the whole car, outside of the garage.
thanks for the compliments, i agree, i like how it sits. i'm going to let the suspension settle a bit more...as i'm considering
taking 1/4 coil off the front and doing a 1/2 lowering block in the rear. other than that, i think it's just about "right".

i'll give the car a wash, but i have to admit, i'm not too proud of the current 2-tone paint, but it'll be primer black all over in a
few weeks...i'll continue to update pics.

Can't wait to see it in the light. Those are the wheels I'd like to add to my '67 someday and would love to see it full on. :thu

if northern CA weather mellows out, i should have some nice sunsets on wed or thursday and plan on trying to get some better pics. i'm still thinking another 1/4 coil off the front...for a full 1/2 coil just to make it 'in the weeds' a bit more.

some pics for those who have been patient....been a little busy....thanks. any thoughts on a bit more drop? i have 1/4 coil cut from the front 620lb springs. i think i can go another 1/4. then, i think i can put in a 1"lowering block in the back. thanks for sac69 for letting me borrow a wheel arch roller. now, i think i can tuck the wheels up in the arches a bit more. thanks folks.
