Sluggo, decode your avatar . . .

It looks like the nose art from the WWII 356th fighter squadron that fought in China. They flew the P51B and the name on the other side of the cowl was 'Ding Hao'. Not sure what the translation is but it could be 'very good' or 'good luck' or something else. I assembled a plastic model when I was in Jr High and it was my favorite model. At the time I think I remember it meant 'Tally Ho' or close to that.

Do I have a close guess?

P51-B Shangri-La, flown by Don Gentile in the ETO. (European Theater of Operations) 336th FS

He also used that art on a P47-D name Donnie Boy

Very cool, I love the pre "D" models, even though they are significantly less popular.

Mach1Mark, where about in ATL? There are a couple of us on the NW side.

Speaking of avatars.......I had my way with yours, Mark. :)

Hope you don't mind too much. :wm?

Thanks, Sluggo. I knew I recognized your avatar and I did forget about the name on the plane (Shangri La). Very cool . . . Ive been a WWII plane officianado since middle school and still am. There was a B-17 that flew over my head last week. I heard the radial engines and turned to see what it was. She was a ways away but the huge tail gave her away. Ive been to a LOT of warbird museums and have a bunch of digital pics. Some stories too from talking to the docents.

Hey Ryan, I live in Acworth. Where you at?

What about my avatar? You like it?

Sweet, I'm right next door in Kennesaw (Legacy Park).

Cool !! We're gonna have to check out the others project. My '65 is stripped of pieces, awaiting the paint to be removed. I DO need an angle grinder to cut the roll bar out (see pic in my profile).

Definitely. I see you're also a Carl Edwards fan, me too!

i'm kinda partial to the thunderbolts. not as sleek/fast as a mustang, but they sure could take the abuse & return home.

Hey, I'm in Marietta! If you ever need a hand let me know. I have an angle grinder and sawzall if you need to borrow either. My angle grinder is a cheapo, so if you destroy it I won't cry ;)
