So I feel like an idiot.....

Recently I started to feel a vibration coming from my T5. Anyways I took it to my friend's transmission shop and he said lets take it apart. So I took the tranny out and he looks around then tells me you didn't put any grease on the pivot ball. He literally slaps me in the back on the head. Then I take the clutch out with was in great shape and then he goes to take off my flywheel bolts. One was stripped!!!! I got slapped in the back of the head again. Took the flywheel off and one dowel pin was broken and again he did it again. Then we got to the pilot bearing and it was in bad condition. He slapped me in the head again.

Anyways that was my problem. So I greased the new pilot bearing and pivot ball and he showed me the correct way to install everything. Only thing I can say WOW!!! My clutch pedal is now so soft it not even funny. Well I felt like an idiot today but man I learned a lot. After he showed the correct way to do it, he said if I want to learn to rebuild a tranny just to ask him and he'll let me do the dirty work. He likes to observe and critique anyways.

My head still hurts :beat

always better to have a sore head with new knowledge than to have a sore wallet!! :lol

:wstup

Glad you caught it now, before there was more damage!

He likes to observe and critique slap people in the head anyways.

Fixed it for you.

On a semi-related note....

Sunday afternoon we had our usual 4th of July bash at my house. One of my friends showed up with a buddy who after drinking a 12 pack insisted upon arm wrestling anyone he started talking to. After he'd beaten a few people I agreed to show everyone how it was done. We locked hands and stalemated with neither of us gaining any significant progress. After 30 seconds of the stalemate I asked him if he was ready to lose. He smiled at me and I instantly biotch slapped him with my free hand and went "over the top" and pinned him with my other. The look of confusion on his face was worth it as I walked off calling him a loser.

LMAO!!

I feel like a real big idiot, because there is a creaking noise coming from the bellhousing on the 5.0. Guess what I didn't grease? :lol

I've always been told not to grease the pilot bearing because they already come pre-greased and adding grease will ruin the bearing. I assume you mean throwout bearing?

No it was the pilot bearing, I also thought it was pre-greased. It was dry when I took it out.

Thats weird. My pilot bearing (not bushing) had grease on the little rollers and got a little bit on my fingers when I went to install it with my bearing driver.

Crap. What exactly are we talking about here? Is it the pivot for the clutch fork inside the bell?

Normally a new pilot bearing is already greased right out of the package. The clutch fork pivot ball should get a dab of grease and so should the contact face of the throwout bearing. It's not the end of the world if you forgot to apply grease to these areas. I've done it both ways, but the correct way is to apply some grease.

In the big scheme of things its not a big deal. The way I drive my mustang I'm pretty hard on the clutch.
