So much for my '03 GT

Last week was not the best in recent memory. A woman in a Nissan Altima ran a red light and I nailed her in the intersection. Thankfully nobody was hurt, primarily for two reasons: 1) we were both going no more than thirty mph, and 2) I steered to the left so that the impact was around her driver's side front tire instead of right on the door.

Though there was little damage to the engine compartment (the radiator didn't even start to leak) the insurance company totaled the car. Glad I still had collision coverage.

That sucks! The airbags didn't deploy? Lots of plastic in the intersection... What does her car look like?

I didn't take any pics of her car, but at least a quarter of the front of her car was caved in. Her front suspension was trashed and the driver's side tire was tilted towards the center of the car at about a 45 degree angle.

Both of my airbags went off though I did not make contact with the driver's side airbag. My insurance company estimated the repairs to my car to be about $500 more than the car was worth, so they are cutting me a check. They valued the car at the high end of the blue book, which is a silver lining to this whole thing.

I also thought about snagging the leather seats to put in my '68, but couldn't find the time to get away from work to do so. I'm not sure if I would fit in the '68 with them installed, anyway as I am 6'0".

To bad.....

The seats should work fine for you if you retain the 68 mounting....the electrics on the newer seats put them pretty high in a classic.

Did you consider buy it back from the insurance company to part it out. It's usually reasonable.

My thoughts exactly! If drive train is fine, should be able to recoup your money easily.

I thought about parting it out, but I don't have the time to pull the engine and transmission. It would sit in the driveway forever, annoying my landlords and neighbors. I don't even have the time to work on my '68.

Find out the buy back, maybe someone here would buy it complete from you for a small profit..
