Not that it's a sad day but I finally got around to selling off my Sportscards today. I lost money but still net was 16K so it's better to have that than a million pieces of cardboard. It was a hobby started as a kid and gave up in the early 90's but it's all been just sitting in boxes so ...................................

I've been on this kick lately selling off thing that I haven't used in a long time. Craiglist is my friend :$$$ Next stuff to go will be Memorabilia, than Horse tack and equipment, my old bike if a certain someone restores it :vic than the big stuff I think the Boss 302 goes sometime this summer.

Damn Mark, thats alot of dough for baseball cards. You musta had some good ones in there!

I keep saying I'm going to sell off these boxes and boxes of comic books I have in the attic, but does anyone still collect them things? Plus, I thought my son might get a kick out of them when he gets older. But if I could get 1/10 of what you got for the cards, I could have a new TV... :$$$ :lol

I have boxes of comics too that I thought about getting rid of but will most likely pass them onto my kids.

That had been my plan with my cards as well to pass on to my kids, and also thought foolishly they were an investment :lol However for my boys it's clear they don't have the same interest in the cards or really Stick and ball sports that I did so my fear one day was they would wind up in dumpster or sold for next too nothing at a yard sale.

Its interesting too me that I find my kids interest are far different than mine but it's a totally different world today. My oldest is big time into robotics and robotic com petions and anything Tech. He will occasionally watch a sporting event and attends some with me but truthfully sometimes I think he's just being the good son.

Oh well that's why there's 31 flavors :craz

yeah, mine are the same way. they have no interest in the old stuff i collect. i've toyed with selling off my collections & paying off the house etc, but i still enjoy having the stuff, so haven't committed to turning it loose. if something happened to me, it would get sold off for 2 cents on the dollar & spent at wal-mart. only thing they would be interested in would be if i had a collection of ladies naughty parts, then there would be a custody battle :lol :lol :lol

1st Superman comic book sells for $317,200
John Dolmayan, drummer of the rock band System of a Down and a dealer of rare comics, purchases a copy of 'the Holy Grail of comic books' for a client.
March 15, 2009|Associated Press
NEW YORK — A rare copy of the first comic book featuring Superman has sold for $317,200 in an Internet auction. The previous owner had bought it secondhand for less than a buck.

It is one of the highest prices ever paid for a comic book, probably a testament to the volume's rarity and excellent condition, said Stephen Fishler, co-owner of the auction site ComicConnect.com and its sister dealership, Metropolis Collectibles.

Mark was there a lot of old cards in there (early to mid 1900s), or what drove the price for $16k? I agree that's a lot of money, especially in this economy. I have about 200k+ cards in my closet from my childhood days, with a mix of baseball and basketball. There are well over 1000 Michael Jordan cards valued at about $8k. I too had considered selling them but figured I wouldn't get crap for them since the market isn't what it used to be for ballcards. I see collections selling off for around $500-1000 all day long on Craigslist.

I had some of everything, but what drove my value up as much as anything Lots of Wax, also many star's rookies, Mays, Mantles, and way too many HOF to mention. I also had lots of complete sets and some very hard to get ones.
I think the biggest thing that helped me was my attitude on selling them. I was not in a position I had to sell them and I had stored them the without problems since I all but stopped collecting in early 90's. I weeded out the low ballers before I even met with them by wordage of ad and than multiple phone conversations and making sure they understood this was going to be in 5 figures so don't waste my time if you can't handle that. I really only showed the collection to two prospective buyers both wanted to buy but one we were off a couple thousand from my bottom line.

I think there are collectors out there that will pay but don't think you will get anywhere near the value you would like for your stuff. I and or you have to be willing to just let it go and take less to just be done with it. Truth is if I wanted to sell off my stuff a card at a time and create another full time job for myself sorting, ebaying, shipping ansering constant emails and all that goes with it I would of perhaps been able to net twice as much. That said it wasn't worth it to me and was easier and better use of my time to take what I received and just go on.

What in the end it came down to for me was I excepted the fact I wasn't going to fund my kids college, buy a Shelby and perhaps a vacation house and just sold it for fair price to both of us because even if I only got $20.00 for it would of been $20.00 I didn't already have.

I've been working on cleaning up the garage.

After last evening I can actually see the top of my workbench again. Now I need to find some cheap cabinets that I can mount on the wall to get some of the crap off the bottom shelf.

I have more stuff in the garage I need to get rid of like some old car seats the boys used to need, a basket ball goal, etc but it's getting there slowly.

I'm the one who needs to get my fishing stuff down, I have a whole 12x12 stall in barn mostly loaded with fishing stuff perhaps you have given me another idea. Now if you have some real old bamboo and Hardy stuff perhaps we should talk about it. What the heck would you do with a 25" frame anyway. But I would trade you for shag :lol
