Sometimes you have to laugh at yourself

I put the new oil pan on yesterday. I was running short on time when I was finishing up and put some oil in it pretty quick.

I also put some news print under the car to help expose any leaks (just in case).

Ran home at lunch today and about fainted when I see a large puddle of oil under the new pan. After getting over the shock I start looking at it. We bolted the pan on and the drain plug was in the pan when I pulled it out of the box but in my rush I didn't think to tighten the drain plug, LOL!

I tightened it down good and when I checked the oil I was about 1/2 a quart low. Wasn't the end of the world since the car has been sitting since yesterday but did give me a good laugh.

It would have been worse if you completely forgot to install the drain plug.

I'm sure you'll check it next time.

I laugh at myself all the time, come to think of it....so does everyone else.

You gotta try harder to screw up better than that :ecit

Or what's worse, is when you try to drain a 9 quart oil pain into a 6 quart container. Been there done that...got the t-shirt. I went to change oil, but since the engine was cold my thinking was to pull the plug and let it drain over night and finish up the next day after work. Well, the next day i go out to the garage to see an oil slick the size the Exxon Valdez left. I closed the garage door, drove to the store and bought the biggest back of kitty litter I could find, and begin clean-up on aisle one... :craz

I laugh at myself all the time!! I think I'm the funniest person I know!! I even can carry on a pretty decent conversation with myself too!!
I'm glad that's all that was wrong, but I'm sure that initial shock of oil on the paper was a shocker!!!!!

Nope.... what's worse is when you install the oil pan.... and then look all over the place for the darn drain plug.... only to remember that you'd laid it into the uninstalled pan so you wouldn't misplace it.

You think you're almost done.... and then you're starting all over again.

That's worse.

Oh the memories :craz

Was at the track, Many many years ago, and saw a narrow oil trail. Started smiling to myself, thinking that some dam fool forgot to check his drain plug and was about to have a bad day. About that time my oil light comes on.... :cry

Just befor hitting the track I had changed the oil, but neglected to tighten the drain plug properly. Now I'm in the pits with no drain plug, so I start walking the track. I follow the oil trail around the track and about 3 feet befor the start of the trail there is a nice clean drain plug :po

By the time I return my Dad has told everyone he could find of my mechanical abilities and they are all waiting on me to pat me on the back. That was a LONG weekend.
