Spent a couple hours in the basement last night.

We had some strong storms roll through last night. A couple of tornadoes a few miles away from me. :hide
All the local sirens were going off and then the power went out. That's enough to get my attention.
We all headed down to the basement for an hour or two.
50-60 homes damaged one town over from us. Lots of trees down everywhere.
My mom's house was damaged by high winds. lots of siding and roof shingles blown off.

Holy crud, I'll take an earthquake any day.

Glad you and your family are all okay.

Glad to hear you made it through unharmed and undamaged. Seems most of the severe stuff stayed further north and missed my area.

Looking at the damage pics makes me wonder why building code in the Midwest doesn't require "hurricane ties" and such. Judging by the pictures, most of that damage would not have occurred if they had used $50 worth of the steel straps, etc. When I had my home built my builder and I talked about it and it made perfect sense to me. If anyone in in the process of building a new home (anywhere) I would suggest you make this a consideration.

Re: Spent a couple hours in the basement last night.

Just got back from my mothers. Not as bad as I expected. She needs a new roof. 70% of the shingles on the back side are blown off. The rest has major hail damage.
She had 2 sections of her fence knocked down. The wind snapped the 4 x 4 posts off at ground level.
A few very large evergreen trees uprooted. We were able to save the siding and get it all back on.

Glad your ok, but all the snow and now this. Dude, you need to move.
If we hadn't just had the baby we would be gone all ready.
We just got another 10" of snow yesterday. it never ends here. :rant

wow, The weather sucks. We had a hail storm here the other day. Over 2k in damages to our 2011 Terrain. Effin Weather.

That sucks! You just bought that.

We aren't getting hit as hard as the south with the tornadoes.
We only had 3 confirmed in the same the night. They all were within 5-10 miles of us but went around us completely.
1 to the west, one to the north and one that was east of us.

That ugly little storm that rolled through last night took a bunch of shingles and a good chunk of our fence with it. I haven't even had a chance to fix what the last storm screwed up.

We had 46 tornadoes in Wisconsin in 2010. But we usually only average around 30 per year state wide. :hide
