Need to loop a wire on the safety switch, but for now we are shorting the solenoid-

I think it's out of time, But I don't know why it's cranking so SLOW

The starter is the one I always had, it cranked fine-Battery is Charged

Really thought she would at least pop twice!- :char :rant

"Slow Cranking can be caused by no engine to frame/body Ground Cable"

I didn't have one- :hide

I'll try that tonight. Have to see if the parts store stocks them.

This was a LONG time ago but one time when I had dropped in a fresh engine in my first 65 I had the same cranking issue and I eventually found I had something wired up wrong with the alternator harness. Sorry I can't remember exactly which wire but like a said it was a LONG time ago!

Put on Engine to Frame Ground & also found a the Black/Red Alternator ground Hanging,

So I grounded it to the block,

No Dice-Still Cranks Very Slow.

The distributor I have SUCKS I can't turn it more than 3/4 of an inch.- The tie down strap hits the intake on one side,& the Electric box hits the other! :rant

I'm leaning towards the Timing.... Would timing make this engine crank so slow??

Yes. I would start focusing upon the dizzy at this point.

with the plugs out and everything else mounted/Fan/Water pump ect..

The engine turns over at around 65 Foot pounds, Is this too high?

Never put a torque wrench to one like that but that sounds pretty high to me with plugs out. I know my 289 turned over kinda slow the first time, now that its run, it seems to have loosened up a little.

Another thought flywheel bolts correct length? Torque converter mounted correctly to the flexplate (if an A/T)? i.e. does the T/Q drain plug line up with the hole in the plate.

flywheel bolts came with the T5,out of 90's fox body

everything fit nice when I put it together?

I will get a new starter & starter cable & a different distributor and try again....

my friend said it should take 2 fingers and around 10 ft/pounds I don't think hes right though.

i'll try a new starter before I tear into the engine, hope I don't have to... :barf1

And 65ft/lbs does sound like A lot to spin the engine. Was that with the plugs in it? I know with one oh my Hemis, I can spin the crank pulley, by bare hands, with the plugs out of it.

Dumb question.... Is the battery good? What are the cranking Amps?

battery is new,cold cranking amps-525

the 65 ft/lbs was plugs out,i could turn it over by hand when it was a short block...

I just bought a new starter/starter cable gonna put that on tonight im praying the old starter was bad! :shrug

oops its a 775 ccamp battery, yeah I just checked that now it was up to snuff,

Put the new starter and cable on it has a little more power cranking power

I'm gonna pull the distributor out in the morning and double check everything, i'll put some pics up of my crappy dizzy and you guys can tell me what you think.

Pulled the dizzy, Found TDC on compression stroke, It was off pretty bad

Same sluggish crank- :rant

Put some fuel in the carb, it backfired through the carb... Maybe timing isn't On as good as I thought??
