Starting new street/strip performance mustang

So what I have so far is a 67 coupe with an excellent body no rust. the problem, last owner lied thru teeth about work he had done to engine. I have verfiied afeter some time that the following should be close to correct but need help in hitting the 600hp mark with minimal effort.

Here is my current setup supposedly a 412/ more like 406 stroker, but I am not seeing real performance with this car barely runs 12.90 sec quarter mile. Was hoping on a list of parts to swap out to improve current configuration, Piston are the KB hyper the 319
 
You need to give a whole lot more info for us to begin to help you figure this out. I can tell you there is no cheap way to get to 600 H.P. and all the horsepower in the world is not going to give you good track times without a fair amount of chassis work.

Tell us what size engine block you have. Heads? Intake? Cam? Ignition? Exhaust? Transmission? Rear/gear? Tire size? Without all this info we can't begin to help you.
 
Yep, need more info. Have you checked the obvious like timing and carb tuning? This can make or break an engine's performance
 
OK, took a few minutes to Google your pistons to get a better idea of what you might have. What you have is a cheap, dished stroker piston that will yield you a fairly low compression ratio depending on your head volume. If you are thinking going NA, 600 H.P is a very distant dream. If you had thoughts of boost or gas you need to think again as well as these are not forged pistons and although in some applications might be OK are not recommended by most for that type of use. You'd need to be closer to 11:1 not the 9:1 you most likely have right now. Even then, it would take some serious heads and cam to get you there.
Since the PO went cheap on the pistons you really need to see what you have for rods and crank. Asking for 600 ponies is going to require these to be upgraded (preferably forged) as well.

Not trying to spoil your fun just giving it to you straight. With any luck, you'll come back and tell us you have a set of AFRs on it but I more expect it to be a set of ProComps. Either way, we'll give you some advice to get you going.

What he said. Your gonna need a drivetrain that can withstand the torque and substantial amount of chassis strengthening or you will break something.
 
ANy ideas on the correct gaskets for the Protoplines? I think I may port and polish myself. whats the worst right?

It would help if you gave a bit more information. They used to make both iron and aluminum heads (maybe still do?)...which do you have? It is certainly not one of the most favored lines. I've read a mixed bag on this brand of head. Seems depending on vintage (company owning the casting rights at the time) you could have a decent head or junk. If you start grinding them yourself (it sounds like you have little experience in this area) you can quickly make a good head junk. I'd suggest getting them looked at by a reputable shop and see what they have to say about them.

Your first post here left a whole lot of unanswered questions. We're still waiting to learn more about what you have so we might give some advice. Fill us in...
