All of you on the east coast..stay safe with the hurricane coming..I am inland about one hundred or so miles..hoping it might not be to bad in my area of North Carolina near raleigh

Though you east coasters deserve all the crap mother nature can dish out to you.....I can't help but worry about the impact this upcoming storm might deliver to ya. Stay safe.
 
Hell..they're are sayin' NYC will get whacked worse than anybody else. You don't see that everyday. Hunker down and watch the well spaced updates ( the minute by minute grates on the nerves)
 
Vinny, let's get together for a beer man. I was in communication with Dave last night and he may take a direct hit. He's getting some stuff moved and might be *gulp* coming to my house for a day or two to hang out. Hopefully everybody in it's path will be ok. Hunker down people and if anybody needs anything let us know. I've got the saws and trailer ready and can pick up/deliver any supplies that might be hard to get in your area.
 
Yep, we might not be messing around with this one. Most of the tracks (at this minute) have the eye making landfall and then 20 miles later passing directly over our house. If she stays at a Cat 3 we will probably head inland. I spent this morning securing everything on the property and topping off all of the vehicles and gas cans. I lucked out as my redneck neighbors 40x60 steel building was empty allowing me to temporarily store our boat and Joe's '57 F100. They normally reside under a metal carport, but if we get a direct hit the carport will likely end up in a tree a few miles away.

I'm not too worried about the wind/rain (as long as it stays around 110-115). My greater concern is the storm surge. We live VERY close to the Pamlico Sound. Wind blowing in from the ocean (East) from medium sized storms forces the water level in the sound to rise a few feet. A larger storm could produce much higher water levels. Smack dab in the middle of our property is a stream/tributary that feeds into the sound. This stream will start flowing backwards and water from the sound will pour into my property. If the sound water level rises higher than 6 feet.... I'm pretty much screwed and will be filing insurance claims on the '66 and both Harleys. Joe's Ecar and bike will also be water damaged. The garage/bar building could suffer considerable water damage. Our house sits 6-7 feet higher than the garage building and would probably be fine. The guest house sits 3 feet lower than our house and would be next in line to flood after the garage. Insurance would cover water damage to all of the vehicles, but there's no flood insurance to cover damage to any of the buildings.... and silly me just put a $3500 pool table in the bar. :roul

I'm unsure at this minute if we'll need to take Duane up on his offer. Hickory is awful long drive.... heck, it might not even be raining that far away. My goal would be to get out from under the eye of the storm. 100 miles inland would probably do it. Maybe just head to the Raleigh/Durham area and let the wife/kids do some shopping for a few hours.

Our hope is that the gulf stream grabs the storm and shifts the track to the east a few miles.
 
The outer rain bands are hitting us here in the Charleston area as I type. As I posted in another thread on the storm, we won't see it, but will probably be brushed.

I also got a call a little while ago from my boss. I had taken a few days vacation to go to the MCA Grand Nationals. He advised I was being placed on the "deployment" list if we should end up going for relief work. That would mean no vacation time. It's fine with me though, I did the same thing when Katrina hit. We were in Biloxi three days after landfall and stayed several weeks. If ya'll take a hit in NC, you may just see me in your neck of the woods! If so, I DO expect to see a cold one waiting for me. It's the only time I can think of that I can be "on the clock" AND consume adult beverages! LOL :beer
 
Already raining here in Myrtle Beach. Looks like it's going to be a long night. Although we won't have it as bad as Dave is potentially looking at, we are on just before 40+ mile an hour winds with gusts to 60. Flash flooding and some medium wind damage is to be expected. I've got as much of my stuff put up as I can. We'll sit here and work through it. Good luck Dave, you know your welcome here if you need a place to go. I think we'll be ok.
 
They've announced mandatory evacuation of flood zones here in NYC and they also say as of tomorrow at noon there will be NO subway or bus service anywhere in the city. 250,000 people need to get out and go somewhere, I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere because I can only imagine what traffic is going to be like.
 
Wow. This storm is frickin' ginormous! It's raining here in socal! I am not kidding!

When Ike hit here a few years back I took the Mustang and the wife's car to the parking garage at the office. My in-laws came to stay with us and wife insisted on their taking up one of my garage spaces :wtf We weren't worried about flooding but didn't want to leave any cars on the drive for a tree to take out, etc.

If nothing else, find an air port, etc with long term upper level and park the Mustang there for a few days.

When Cyclone Yazi hit North Queensland last summer the tail of it made it right to the centre of australia as a rain depression.
the damage i saw was unbelievable.
The evacuation orders were what saved lives then.
We will be thinking of you.
 
I just got finished driving down I77 and I 85 through VA, NC, SC, and GA. Not a cloud in sight nor anomalous winds. Of course, I was well over 150+ miles inland of the coast.

My fingers are crossed for everyone in the path of this one.
