Straight scoop from folks in Fla panhandle

We have a timeshare in sandestin, near destine. We are coming next week. The info from the
South Walton beach chamber of commerce types on the web say that there is not a problem with oil on the beaches there. What say you guys on the ground in the area? Anything more than tar chips?
 
We have not been in that area for a while but there is nothing in the Panama City area. From the Destin area, I do not hear of any problem now but earlier they did have some tar balls. I believe it was pretty much all cleaned up. There was some reports of oil sheen further out in the gulf and that, too, has been reported as moving west and south.

From talking with family around the country and seeing the local conditions, I feel it was all built up drastically in the news.

Florida may never be the same now....... :scar
 
Conditions are simply fine, and hotel costs are now at their lowest, due to the decline in tourism. The beaches are reasonably clean and free of oil.

C'mon down! Just let us know when so we can inform the local media to get the word out for folks not to drop their trousers while you are here.
 
I had just spent the week of 4th of July at my brothers condo (Topsil) in Sandestin. We were on the 13th floor and could see to Panama City, no sign of any slicks, no tar balls on the beach, just some seaweed that cleared out after a good heavy rainstorm. Saw a large black spot coming towards the beach one day, people paniced and called, a dozen BP workers showed up with brooms and no english skills....turned out to be a high cloud casting a shadow, they were gone w/in an hour. Should have gotten some pics for the thong thread but as usual I was only thinking of myself...
