stroker kit

Well im looking at getting a 97 5.0 explorer gt40 motor. Im looking at wanting to go stroker and the 331 is the one im debating on. any one used or have any info or feedback . .... what would be an awesome combo.

Wish I could give more feedback, mines sitting on the engine stand still. I had a local shop build my 289 into a 333ci with a stroker kit, I'd have to pull out the paperwork but from recollection - SCAT cast crank, have to look up rods, KB flat top pistons put me at 9.7:1 compression. I wanted a very streetable motor with some legs. Topped with AFR 165's, Weiand Stealth, Demon Jr. 625, MAC full length headers. I guessing 375-400hp fwhp. I running a hyd. roller so your cam will be different. Builder is ancy to see it run as he competes in the engine masters challenge.

I sat down with the builder and discussed my use of the car, rear gears, pump gas, etc. he suggested different cam combos, etc. and we agreed on the build. He port matched my intake to heads and assembled the long block. I let the builder order the entire kit, he got his discount and made a few bucks on it, didn't cost me any more than ordering myself and if any sizes were wrong it'd be his issue and not mine. I didn't want to hold him up for wrong parts and it kept him happy to make a few $ on parts, made for a good relatinonship and smooth build, any issues were addressed no charge.

well luckily my motor im wanting is already a roller motor. i am going with the gt-40 heads because the stocker kit will eat up most of my budget. i wish i could get some afr heads. I am also wanting togo Fuel Injected but be around 400....if the fuel inj dosent pan out then a carb setup will need to be sourced. I guess im going to need to figure out what cam to use . the ford or go another crane or another. i wanted a stock appearance

I'm running a Scat cast crank, Scat forged I-beam rods (bushed for full-floating wrist pins and set up for cap screw rod bolts), and KB hypereutectic pistons. I ran some mildly upgraded J code heads for a while, but recently upgraded to Trick Flows.

Those GT40 heads will be ok, but the stroker is going to want to breathe more than that. If the GT40's need any work, sell them and put the money towards a set of decent aftermarket heads.

You really should get a different cam. Comp Cams has a pretty decent selection of off-the-shelf grinds. Ford's alphabet cams work, but they're not really the best option.

My 331 has Scat steel crankshaft, Scat forged steel rods, KB hypereutectic pistons, 165 AFR aluminum heads, Weiand action plus intake, and 600 cfm Performer. I went with the mildest Comp roller cam (258 HR) for lower power range and torque. I never found a set of headers that would fit without alteration and went the hi-po exhaust for the stock look. I've not dyno'd the engine but software puts it about 290 -300 rwhp. I know between 2500 and 4000 rpm it will set you back in your seat and then some. I have yet to get the courage to really open it beyond that.

I am in the process of doing a new engine for my car. I am also using a Scat Crank but forged because of my engine combo. I am also using Scat Forged H beam rods. For pistons I am using Probe Forged (dished because of the blower). My old engine is a little 306 but uses AFR 165 heads. They have worked great for me but are a little small for the new combo. I am also using a FMS E cam. It seems to work fine and is a pretty smooth idle but gives plenty of go when you jump on it. I'll be pulling my old engine today to sell to fund the cost of the new engine.

how much u looking at getting for some of ur parts? ie heads? since i jheard the afr165 will work well and outflow the gt40'S or how hard would it be to port out the gt40s

I think I am going to try to sell the whole engine before I piece it out. I am hoping to get $2500. It comes with 1000 miles, fully balanced, new forged pistons, E303 cam, 1.7 Crane roller rockers, Flywheel & AFR 165's. I also have a professional products polished EFI intake I will get rid of at some time. Of course I am always open to offers. PM if you want.
