SWMBO and Cancer

guruatbol

Always on vacation!
Well, it is official SWMBO has cancer. It is the pink kind and the prognosis is good, but it is going to be a tough year for both of us. It is an aggressive one and we will be getting the treatment outline Tuesday.

I just thought those that know Amber should know. She can use all the prayers she can get.

I guess I will not be going out on the road for a while.

Mel

Tell Amber to be strong. We're here if we can help.

My sister got the same news a few weeks ago. She starts chemo (sp?) next week. It will be very difficult but stay strong...not only her but you.

Mel, sorry to hear the bad news. Keep her spirits up, as attitude has a LOT to do with successfully getting past this disease..

Terrible news. The support of the whole SF universe is behind both of you. I hope Amber has a speedy recovery.

You and her will be added to my prayer list. That is mentally quite a blow. My wife was diagnosed with bone cancer last year. I was in a funk for several months. Keep you head up, she ill need you. PM me if you EVER need some support. The husbands need it too.

Mel, sorry to hear the news and it can be scary, you will need to be the full support system in my experience. My wife was diagnosed in '08, had 3 surgeries, chemo and finished her radiation in '09 and is now a proud survivor. She got the book 'breast cancer for dummies' and says it was scary but good information for her. I suggest you get this book or another that her Dr. may suggest. Read up on it to so you can give needed and understanding support and be prepared for the stages of treatment and recovery. The book explains what to expect which prepared her for some of rougher parts but she knew there were worse turnouts also. She was lucky (to me, but I'm the optimistic) that she avoided a mastectomy, which doesn't necessarily free you from a reoccurence as many think.
Reading up on it helped me calm her often as she would read the worst of every outcome while I'd point out the better, less invasive outcomes that were possible.

I also traveled for work at the time and was lucky to have a good boss who allowed me to take 2-3wks. at my home office when she had surgeries. I also went with her to every Dr.'s appt. I could. Sitting with her through chemo really boosted her spirits, I couldn't make them all but the ones I could would keep her up.

If I can answer any questions or give you any heads up please PM me and I'll give you my email/phone #.

Mel,
Yes I'm very sorry to hear of this, yet I think it's important for you to quickly realize the situation you are in and realize those (like us) who are behind you and SWMBO. The both of you are in our prayers.

Craig

I too am very sorry to hear this news. Please try to keep her thinking positive. My wife had cancer nearly 20 years ago, had the treatments and has been a healthy, happy survivor ever since. My prayers also go out to your wife and family.

Mel I am so sorry to hear the news about Amber. Of course you will be in our prayers. The good thing is that now cancer is no longer a death sentence. My MIL is finished with her chemo and saw her for the first time on Thursday without a hat or a wig, yes her hair is growing back. Stay positive, if that means making a sacrifice and staying out of the "Politics, Guns, and a can of Whoop Ass!" forum for a while then do it.

Tim

Sorry to hear the bad news Mel, my thoughts and prayers are with you, SWMBO, and the whole family. We are not all that far away, so if you need anything, feel free to pick up the phone.

Good luck to your wife, Mel. We've had a few people in our network of friends that have had cancer recently and have come around or are getting better. We definitely gave thanks for that. Your wife is in our thoughts.
