I need some input and suggestions! I thought my game plan was well thought out and sound, but yesterday I discovered an issue that has me wondering which path to take. Let me give you some details on what I have.
My car is a 65 coupe, A code 4-speed car. I've decided to keep the original 289 on an engine stand and give it something fun under the hood. I now have a fairly built 347 (based on a 1990 5.0 roller block, 28 oz balance), and intended on using the original T-10 since I'm told a T5 would live long behind it. Is this reasonable? I haven't seen anyone else do this, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with the original style flywheel and clutch? I noticed when I pulled the engine and trans last summer that the output shaft had some RTV around the seal, but didn't think much of it. I went to replace the seal last night, and found that the RTV was filling a 3/4" x 1/2" gap that was missing! :rant It looks like someone has dropped the transmission at some time, and the casting broke away around the bottom of the tailshaft housing. . :rr

I guess this is a good time to step back and evaluate whether to continue down the T-10 path (I'm looking for a replacement rear tailshaft housing locally as we speak), or consider a world class T5 swap? I won't be drag racing it with slicks, I'm just after a fun and good handling car that I can auto cross and possibly open track on occasion.
Lastly, I was hoping that I can get some feedback on what headers you may have used. Some say Hooker Super Comps, some say no, etc, etc. I'd hate to choke down a 400 hp small block with restrictive headers (1 1/2 Tri-y style), but I want something that fits well and won't drag over speed bumps.
Sorry for the long email, I'm just trying to take a breath and ask for some feedback from those that may have been in a similar spot.
Thanks in advance!
