T5 conversion do i need dowels in flywheel

T5 conversion on an early 68 stang do i need dowels in flywheel ?

I don't think so because the flywheel can be mounted in only one position.
You must use the proper bolts although.
Like ARP bolts with the right grade ( 8.8 or 10.2 just doesn't know it anymore )

IIRC, the dowels in the flywheel are for installing the pressure plate... It's been awhile since I've had mine apart.

This is correct. Not sure what would happen if you leave them out

Yes you do.

They center the pressure plate to the flywheel. The bolt holes in the pressure plate are a bit larger than the bolts that go through them.

If you don't use the pins you'll regret it the first time you wind it up a bit.

When using the larger late-model style flywheel, everything I've read says you MUST use dowel pins. The one I took out of my '67 didn't have them, though.

I sure don't remember doing this when installing a Centerforce II clutch onto my stock 289 flywheel...I've not had any problem with the clutch.

ford racing part # 397-M-6397-A302 has the bolts & dowel pins in a kit if you need them.

Those bolts are metric, for the late model flywheel. The OP hasn't said if he's using the early or late flywheel, so he may need the SAE bolts if he's using the stock flywheel.

I went through this recently, is how I know. :roll

Hi frank im not sure late or early flywheel but i think its an aftermarket unit has 2 different sized holes all threaded so i take it one must be metric thread?

If it has dowel holes, I'd use 'em. It could only help in the long run. If even just a little...

Yes, one set of holes is metric, the other SAE, depending on your pressure plate. I guess that's what I meant instead of late model flywheel.

I used the King Cobra clutch kit and needed the metric bolts.
