T5 Removal

Well....it seems that we have a 5th gear problem on our freshly (home) rebuilt T5 transmission. It will not stay in gear at all. It worked fine for the first 100 miles or so and now it just pops out when you let out the clutch. I guess I need to pull the tranny and open it up. I would like to just pull the transmission but leave the bell housing and clutch installed in the car. Can you successfully pull it and put it back without having to remove the bell housing? Not much room to get it all out of the car! I was not sure if it will all slide back together that way as I put it in with the tranny and engine as one piece.

Thanks....I barely have room to get the tranny out, not sure if the bell housing would even fit. I was hoping not to have to remove the starter, hydraulic clutch...headers....etc, etc. etc.

Thanks for the responses!

Of course you can. You can't pull the clutch without pulling the transmission AND the bell-housing. The front shaft of the transmission has to clear the clutch hole, and once that is done and you don't have enough room to pull it backward to clear the bell housing hole, simply rotate the tranny slightly as the bell-housing hole is much larger than the clutch hole.
