T5 swap question

Hello,I'm a newby to the forum. If you saw my intro, I am restoring a 66 coupe which I am swapping a t5 for the original C4 tranny. I have the tranny installed, but have confusion as to how high it should sit in the trans tunnel. Some have said that thee shifter box should sit flush with the shifter hole, but mine is about an inch below the hole, with the rubber boot sticking up about 3/4". I used the crossmember that Mustangs Unlimited sells with the original C4 trans mount. The t5 is bolted to a 289,using a later model 6 bolt bell housing.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome!

The T5 in my 65 fastback sits just less than an inch below the tunnel at the shifter hole. In fact we had quite a bit of heat come up through there so I used a trick another person on here share with me to seal the heat away. It sounds like yours is just fine

Welcome to the fix.

I think you have to shorten the driveshaft too.
Soo be careful.Measure twice , cut once.
The driveshaft tends to go "into" the T5 as the rear goes down and tens to go "out" the T5 when under heavy accelerating.
I think you have to have about 1 inch play , but others can confirm this or not.

Try to locate a piece of dense foam that's a bit more than an inch thick and cut it to act as a gasket between the shifter box and tunnel. I was given a piece of a gardening kneeling pad to use, works perfectly.

Thanks for the help on this. My next step is to check the driveshaft, and I will find me some foam to fill that gap at the shifter.
