T5 yoke?

I was going to reinstall my drive shaft, so I put new u joints on and went to install the t5 yoke I bought. It is a different size. Did I get the wrong yoke? I thought a t5 would work with my stock drive shaft, but it is clearly wider?

Anyone using a t5 yoke?

I bought this one used and maybe he sent me the wrong one?

Here's a caption I found on the net:
"The T5 does require a different yoke. Some of the original yokes will fit into the tail shaft. As tempting as it is, don't use it. The older yokes do share the same spline however the T5 yoke is shorter and does not extend so deep into the tail housing. The longer yoke can damage the tail bushing by restricting the flow of oil down the shaft."


"T5 Conversion Slip Yokes are the correct length for using your stock driveshaft without issue, but they use a u-joint which is larger than stock. This u-joint solves that issue. Fully greaseable, fitting is in the cross."

So, yes it seems that the opening on the Yoke is bigger thus requiring a bigger Ujoint.

If I'm wrong, please correct me.

You should be able to get a ujoint that fits the yoke and the stock shaft. They make several oddball joints for this reason.

Maybe I just need to shorten my driveshaft and use my c4 yoke with the AOD. I was thinking I could just swap to a shorter t5 yoke. Ugh.
 
Although it sounds like you already have the answer, I can confirm that you do need a specific aftermarket yoke designed to fit a T5 and original drive shaft. Neither a stock T5 yoke nor an original C4/Toploader/T10 yoke will fit, because as you can see in your photos, the diameter of the U-joints is different between an original drive shaft and factory T5 yoke.

No problem, though. Any T5 parts supplier or Ebay sells them. Appx cost is $80-120.

Of course, the drive shaft will need to be shortened. Also it's a good time to change the factory alum. front bearing retainer from stock to steel. Appx cost is $40-$50 / Summit. PM me with any specific questions.
 
I bought a drive shaft from Shaun and he sent the correct u joint for my t-5. You could check with him on the u joint.

I got the bigger ujoints when I got the driveshaft balanced.
