Temporary High Altitude Carb Adjustment

Sacbill

Hard Swinger
I have one of the Summit (Holley-type) carbs on my 302, and I'm driving up to the Sierras for a few days this week. I'll be going from sea level up to about 4-6000 ft elevation.

I know the normal way to make the adjustment is to jet down a bit. Is it acceptable as an alternative to lean out the A/F mix a bit while I'm at the higher elevation, then adjust back once I get back to sea level?

If refering to the mixture screws....they only effect idle before the throttle plates open.

Its just a few days at the higher elevation, leave it alone and just feather the throttle on cold starts as it will most likely be the only troublesome time.
Once your back down the hill, Give it a few WOT jaunts to blow out the build up from being up high.

I had my 66 in Oregon for a year at 4,000' and didn't re-jet the carb.
