Testing electrical system

I'd like to test my electrical system to make sure everything works, however I don't have the engine in yet. Can I just ground the battery to the chassis, or do I need an engine block? I do have a spare block I could wheel over if necessary.

Yes a simple ground to chassis will allow you to test all the electrcial functions except the engine sending units.
They will only show if grounded.
