Oh man, that was really close.

Went down to Santa Monica for the weekend to take a breather from reality when I get a phone call for an interview at a place in downtown LA. (ESPN, Sooo Kidding, I wish though). I wasnt expecting to get a call so quickly but I took the interview on SAT and was offered the job on SUN. It happened so stinking fast, and totally took up most of my time that I was planning on relaxing but it sounded like a great opportunity and ran with it. He owns a lot of real estate in downtown LA and he suggested I look at some of his properties there and totally fell in love with one. We signed the offer paperwork and had everything set, got the keys to the place even though it was getting some final touches before my move in date, I was stoked to say the least. On my drive home, he gives me a call at about 21:00 and starts adding responsibilities to the job that were not part of the agreement and that for the pay I was not willing to do. (Basically what he failed to mention was that he wants to walk away from the business and have me run it for pennies to the dollar) We tried to meet in the middle, but Isrealis have a way of not wanting to compromise. I told him that I was going to have to decline the position due to him breaching our contract of what he was requiring for the job and also because the PLACE DIDN'T HAVE A GARAGE FOR ME TO WORK ON THE MUSTANG! :nk

I don't know what I missed but I'll just say, "I love my trees, grass, creek, and outside dogs". What's the story?

+3 but I guess you have to look at the convenience of getting to work but it looks like a concrete jungle, are trees outlawed in LA?The apt. is a little 'anticeptic' looking with no carpet or hardwood floors, etc. At first look I thought it was the office you were going to work in. Sounds like a bait & switch on the job offer to me, good thing you had a definitive contract.

Abe,

keep looking. Your opportunity to get closer to your son will come. Working in downtown LA you have options. there are pockets/areas that have the things you need. My in-laws live close to Dodger stadium in a house that was built in 1928 and it has a basement! Downtown LA is about 20 min from there.

Or, you can commute and actually own some land (or rent) and live up in Ventura County.....

blue65coupe, I actually was screwing around one day and sent off a resume just for fun a week ago. My son currently lives in Burbank with his Mom, and my goal is to eventually move closer to him and be as involved as I possibly can be, so that was the reason why I was even browsing at the LA job list. LoL, Trees are not forbidden, they actually line every street with them, its just that the smog starts on the 6th floor and ends on the 12th floor so you really cant see them in photographs as the loft was on the 19th floor. :craz

Jonk67 , basically what the company does is buy up old buildings in downtown and turn them into lofts and condos. I agree with you completely, the floor job was more something I would do to my garage rather than to a home. I was glad that I made sure the contract was written out as detailed as possible, its what enabled me to fight back and tell him he was requiring way more than the scope of the position we had outlined described. The original position was for someone to manage all the on site managers and deal with any situations that a on site level manager couldn't either figure out how to fix, or required someone with a little more privileges to correct. What we had outlined on paper sounded like a lot of fun, but oh well, maybe next time.

Thanks for the encouragement Steve, I appreciate it. It kills me that I can't be there for him right now as a father should be, I do what I can now but I have the fire in me to give him so much more. He's a really great kid and deserves nothing less than 200% from his dad. Hopefully soon enough we'll be neighbors and hit the track and Dodger stadium. LoL :10
