A woman in her 20s and two young girls were taken to Munroe Regional Medical Center with injuries after a Mustang rear-ended a tanker and caught fire on Interstate 75 south of Ocala.

The fiery crash, which occurred around 2 p.m., caused traffic backups on the northbound lanes of the interstate for about an hour and a half.

The woman driver of the Mustang and the girls, ages 2 and 4, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials on scene.

Their names were not immediately available. The truck, which a trooper said appeared to be hauling ash, belongs to CCC Transportation LLC out of Auburndale.

Troopers said the Mustang appeared to drive under the tanker while it was traveling on the interstate. Charges were pending.

Gonna need a bunch of buffing compound on that one......to bad they opened the door past the stops and ruined it.....

Check out the wheel...or lack of it. So the old ones can't handle a rear-end impact and the new ones can't handle a front-end impact. Sounds like an episode of chop, cut, build is in order. Glad they are all ok.

Looks like a good track car candidate. No time wasted gutting it!

No way. A 2 year old AND a 4 year old...? She was doing something with/for them in the back seat.

Probably texting them.... :shrug :nut

I think the Insurance companies check cell phone records times against the accident. Cell phones drivers are dangerous. :rant :bomb

I'm so aware of cage drivers while I ride my motorcycle and 90% of slow, creating driving problems are people on cell phones. They think by driving slower they are safer.....nope. They still aren't paying attention to driving. :soapboxrant

Brings back memories of the 1969 Olds 98 that my brother ran in a demolition derby. It has caught on fire due to an electrical short on the power seats. All he had to do was get a flat bladed shovel and scoop out the interior! (the car had about 50k on the clock and that 455 ran like a top!). My brother owed me $30 so he gave me the car and I repainted it and ran it in a demo derby and took second....
