the boys

I have had my Stang for about 2 years now. I always wondered what the boys think about the car. They often seem to somewhat ignore it but they love to get it out and wash it. They have recently started to like helping me work on it.

But sometimes they are kind of hard to read.

The Mustang has been at my buddy's shop now for right at a month. He had it in the paint booth on Monday so it's getting there. Should be done sometime in the next week or two.

I've noticed though that the boys keep asking me lately "when are we gonna get the Mustang back?"

Guess the little guys miss it, I know I do. Just nice to see they really appreciate the car and enjoy having it around :)

My boys have known about my Mustang all their life. A few years ago I finally got it painted. I showed them a pic of my 1st car (Mustang) when it was painted. They couldn't believe I once owned a Mustang that had a paint job! Now they love when I pick them up from school! They get a little proud when all the kids talk about it. They certainly don't think about cars like I did when I was a kid. My wife on the other hand, I think she is starting to like it more than I do!

Yeah, mine don't seem as car obsessed as I am either...might not be a bad thing though? LOL! However, they are only 8 years old so who knows....

Lucky man re: the wife. Mine won't even drive the Mustang. I am kind of glad about that in a way but then I think if she drove it she might like it and want me to build a straight six vert for her or something along those lines...just thinking a little psychology on that one. Up to now with pretty much shot front springs and drum brakes all the way around I haven't particularly wanted her to drive it. Now however the front brakes will be disc and the front springs will be new.

You need to start training them now. Put the fear of God into them if they touch your Mustang when it gets home from paint. :dh Yes I know but we can only try our best to protect our Mustangs. Its those little things that our children do :doh putting hands all over the doors and trunk lid to close them. fd

I've been working on that even when I had the old faded paint FD.

The boys are pretty good about it but they know the rule at car shows is never touch anyone's car, etc....the danger lies in when their friends come over to play.

yeah, my wife asks to drive mine but doesn't like the no power steering and no power brakes. She is the one that suggested and signed us up for the Hot Rod Power Tour and has been considering buying a newer Stang for herself to drive on the tour. I want to build her a car and we have looked at a few, even had a 68 FB for awhile but sold it cuz we needed the $$$. Anyway, it has been great that she supports and takes an interest. She loves going to cruise-ins and Goodguys, drag races, swap meets, etc. recently I was helping a guy I met at a car show work on his Fox Body, he put in a 347 stroker, and my wife loved all the go-fast goodies and even considered a Fox Body Stang. My boys are 11 and 12 (and 19 but he's moved out), they still like Legos and video games but someday... maybe...
They do like the Forza 3 and other racing games and even made a replica of my car on one of the XBox games. If I can figure out how to get a pic I will.

You should take them to the shop to see the progress. I took my son by the shop a few times. He didnt have a lot of interest at the time, but he loves the car now. He really likes car shows.

Here is one of my favorite pictures. Me and my youngest son replacing an engine.

I've taken them by there several times before in the past sometimes when we've had projects going on our car and other times just because we had time to kill but haven't had time this time due to their being in school, etc.

One of the boys is more interested in cars than the other. The one that is really interested would even jump right in and help when we were pushing the engine hoist around, wanted to raise and lower it himself, etc. He still talks about the time my friend let him put the top down on a '65 Vert that he spent a long time redoing for a client of his. Actually, when we go driving he is quick to point out any convertible car he sees to me...make, model, year, etc don't matter...if it is convertible he points it out, LOL!
