The new smoker first burn

Pretty cool video. Looking forward to hear the results from the first big smoke. Will you be putting wood chunks in with the charcoal or will they be in their own separate pan? What type of charcoal do you normally use?

I just used regular kingsford mixed with some hickory chunks today. I'll be mixing the chunks with the charcoal. The smoke box that came it is small, maybe a hand full of chips will fit in there.Somebody was saying at the local supermarket this morning that they put the chip box in the water pan with the water. I'm going to pick up a couple of bags of the cowboy lump charcoal at home depot for the first big one.Should be good.I was surprised how good those magnets held the door shut.I figure though after a few burns, the door will warp abit and I'll be putting on a latch.

Would there be room if you made a bigger smoke box? I was wondering about those magnets. Keep them clean and maybe you might be able to avoid the latch.

More than likely yes.I'm going to see how it works with the mix first.I figure with the chunk charcoal and the hardwood,I shouldn't have a problem.I did run into radio shack this morning. They have those earth magnets in the size that are in the door.If worse came to worse,I would give those a shot before putting the latch in.
