Thinking About Entering MCA National Next April

MCA will finally have a national that is close enough for me to attend next April. After entering a car show this last weekend (my first in 2 years), I was wore out from cleaning and detailing. Thank goodness for Mrs. Jack helping out (and it only cost me a manicure&pedicure.) Here is a clip after setup: Setup Video.

For you that have gone to MCA National shows, my question is about judging. The only class my car would fit would be "Occasionally Driven" which would seem to have the most entries and with only a 1st, 2d, and 3rd to be given, success would seem to be daunting at least. Thoughts/comments?

I would suggest that you go to the MCA page and look through the various classes. Is the only modification your 331 stroker? (I'm not sure if that would put it in modified.) I just attended the Grand National MCA show in Bellevue WA in July and was in the modified class and that was packed with cars. I went there to have some judges give me some feedback on what we did to the car. (I was very fortunate in winning the modified class.
BTW, I'm going to our Mustang meeting and there is an MCA judge there. I'll ask him about your car.

Jack, I'm entering my car in a MCA National show here in VA Beach this coming weekend. I really could care less about it being judged or winning a trophy. I figure it will be a long time before I get another chance to enter in a MCA show.

I know that the classes other than concours are judged on cleanliness and workmanship vice originality. I just don't have enough time to dedicate to both finishing the assembly and detailing the car and I've accepted that.

So, with that mindset, I'm just going to show off the car, hang out with other Mustangs and Mustangers, and get a lot of pictures and hopefully a lot of pointers on how to further improve the car. I'm not expecting a trophy, just looking to have some fun.

BTW, concur that you have a beautiful car.

I entered the 2009 Grand National Show in Van Nuys CA with our Bullitt......I was classified in Occasionally Driven due to low mileage....For this show I got lucky because there were only two entered in this class and the whole show had maybe 150 Mustangs.....Kinda blame the host club(have a reputation for being stuck in a time warp like playing music from the 40's and 50's and square dancing was entertainment).....Plus the judge for our class owned a Bullitt so he gave me advice on what to do to improve the appearance of the engine and overall condition after he judged our car.........In preparing for this show I cleaned and painted the undercarriage parts like lower control arms, driveshaft and rear axle housing.....Painted the fender wells and cleaned, cleaned, and cleaned......The other car entered in my class was a 99 coupe from Washington state.....Learned alot from this show...This was the only time I had the Bullitt judged so I went in knowing I would make mistakes......Would do it again if the event comes back to Southern California.......

Give it try, you'll have fun and you'll enjoy showing off your car! If you wanted to go in the modified class, you would need five visible modifications. And, if you only have five, you'll have a harder time doing well. Cars in the modified class do not compete against each other, they compete against a point standard. Cars in the Occasional and Daily Driven classes compete against each other but if cars are within three points of each other, they tie. Thus, there also can be multiple First, Second, and Third places in those classes. It is the most competitive class but your car looks terrific and I say go for it!

Nice car for sure. I have done a couple MCA shows like the 30th and 45th anniversary both at Barber. Your car is the kind I hope to see in the judged classes! Go for it!!!

My car on the other hand, has a sign I put in the windshield that says "dirty cuz it's driven" and I wear my road rash with pride!!!

Thanks Stan. The modifications are in the engine compartment (5.0 roller block, stroker kit, aluminum heads, aluminum intake, edelbrock carb, MSD ignition, aluminum radiator). On the other hand, I tried to disguise these changes as much as possible to mimic the original stock look. I'm assuming that approach would not fare well in the modified class.

Don't worry, we'll see them, that's our job. ;)

Plus, you'll need to provide a list of your mods since it's worth nine points.
