This from the town I left.....

I think it was a bit excessive, maybe if she was suspected of weapons, and then it should have been a police matter.

The first thing is the parents should have been called prior to anything more than detaining her and a minor search of her property. Once the parents were contacted, then things would have been different. There are ways to accomplish what the school needed to be done without having school officials having her strip in front of them. Interesting to follow from a town with a population of 8500 and the major business (mining) laying off half the employees. Glad I left.

Yes, only with the parents before anything was "physically" done, I can not imagine what I would have done had that been my child!

I agree the strip search went too far, but it wasn't the first incident with this girl. According to the paper this morning, other students had accused her of bringing drugs to school and one mother said she had held a party where she served alcohol to other students. Granted, they're just accusations, but it does make one think there was a reason for the strip search. Plus, the girl agreed to it. She could have refused.

I could not track down the original article. I believe the party stuff came out to parents being involved and that info was swept under the carpet. I believe the girl originally said she was scared to refuse due to the school officials threatening to send her to jail. Also, I remember there being a male school official being involved according to the first report.

Just like so many things, the media only gets half the story and then might screw that up. Will have to watch this one.

I agree, and I don't think an 8th-grader should be making the decision to allow such a search. The article today said it was the school nurse and an administrator, both female, who did the search.
