...out of me every time! :rant I was bush hogging the field in front of the house and was all up against the bushes at the edge of the field to keep them from growing outward any more. I looked up as I was swinging around at one end and damn near ran into this thing.

I sprayed it good with the wasp stopper stuff that streams way out and killed it one evening. I cut it off last night and threw it in the back of the truck. I'm at work today covering a shift for someone on vacation and took some pics for ya'll. These things give me the dang heebie-jeebies. There is a new one every year in that field(about 5 acres) or the one just above it. I was doing the same thing last year in the other field (about 15 acres) and got up against the bushes and just happened to see it when I came back around. Scared the shit out of me then too. I have read that an old ford tractor will not outrun these hornets or a nest of bumbles...lol I've never been stung by the hornets yet, evidently they are not really aggressive if you are just around the nest or bounce it a little. One of the guys here ran into one last year on a low limb and he had knots all over his head/face/arms and said it hurt like hell. They are kind of hard to see as they are well camouflaged in the edge of the bushes they have grown around.

Yep....seen tons of them in the younger days.

They will get upset if bothered to much and only they know their limits.

Old Ford tractors are slower then molasses in the winter when trying to out run anything.....bees, hornets, fires, wasps, neighbor girls fathers, watermelon patch owner................

Hate wasp but usually if you don't bother their nest then you are ok.

I had to kill a nest last week....little devils had built a nest in a part of the boys' basketball goal under the rim. We were shooting baskets and I started to notice several coming in / out of there so had to get the wasp spray.

Scary thing is we had just moved the goal a few minutes earlier but guess that didn't upset them.

Screw wasps. Stumbling on a yellow jacket's nest is friggin' brutal.

Yep, had a nest of those pop up out of the blue on the front porch about a year ago and had to nuke them as well. We never use the front door so I thought about leaving them to "deal with" door to door sales people....

We were scouting in the woods one day and looked down and had 'em 3/4 the way up my pants legs. I never wear blue jeans but was that day. Good thing too. Me and my buddy had a couple thousand on us and not one sting. Ran like I was being attacked by a flock of owls though. I also pulled a nest out of some bushes I was clearing around the house one time. That sucked. And then there was the swarm when we were showing the house, nailing a nest with the bike, etc. I hate those sobs.

My boyfriend stepped into one in Mexico last week and he's allergic. Something he forgot to tell me, btw. Fortunately, he does carry ampules with him and he shot up. But, he said he couldn't talk or write right for several days. He sent me a couple e-mails and I thought he was drunk at first. Saw him on Skype last night and he still has large bumps on his forehead from the stings.

I remember as a kid (12 or so) I stepped in a nest while hiking with the family. They were in a stump that broke down under my weight. I ran and screamed like a school girl. I thougt I got away without a sting. I loaded up into our 72 Torino Wagon in the 3rd row seat. You know the ones that faced backwards? Anyways, I was there for about 1 minute before the two wasps that flew up my shirt started to sting me all over my back. I could not escape and had to wait for my dad to stop the car and open the back latch. I am still scared of bees. I hate the litte fu&*ers.
