Went in for blood work this past Saturday.

My total Cholesterol is 246 but it's due to a significant contribution of my HDL (good) of 99. Triglycerides were also very low at 49. Doctor does not want to put me on Statins as my good cholesterol is so high. I guess I'm doing something good - planning on more exercise to get the bad cholesterol down and lose some weight.

That's good. If you can stay off them. I've been on several different statins. My cholesterol with out them is over 400. With them I'm down to 200, but the side affects are muscle pain big time.

Yeah I went in for a physical in late April and the blood tests came back with high cholesterol. With my family history of having high cholesterol, the doctor wanted to put me on pills if it doesn't back down in 3 months. The wife and I decided to go on a diet together. So we are on the nutrisystem plan and I've lost 30lbs. I went back 2 weeks ago for blood work and got the results that my cholesterol is at 168.

That's awesome, David! I too have seen a direct link to cholesterol, blood pressure and weight. I'm walking an hour each morning I can and watching how much I eat vice what I eat.

Gee, im glad i never go to the doctor and find out all this bad news. Im living in blissfull ignorance while everyone around me is dropping like flies.

A couple months back when I went for a check up doc told me the new thing is if you're over 50, you're going on statins no matter what your cholesterol is.The statins are to reduce inflammation of the arteries.

None of my heart specialists including one who is very highly sought after and does ground breaking research, have said anything about that.

I'll have to ask, next appointment.

Rapid, my doc told me to take 200mg of CoQ-10 and Centrum Silver (which has potassium and magnesium) for the muscle cramps. Hope that helps.

Drink goats milk and ditch cows milk. It has lots of potassium.

Though my heart issue is controlled with meds, I believe in eating what is best for my body. So no soda pop, alcohol, caffeine, or processed food.

In fact I took a sample while at Costco the other day and though this hamburger patty designed to go from freezer to table in two minutes tasted very good, I had heartburn for a day and a half.

We have started to try alternative methods, herbs, oils and such.

My heart rhythm specialist, who is a leader in this field agrees with our methods for the most part.

You are absolutely right, Mike.

Didn't mean to come on so strong.

Just wanted to put what is working for me out there.

I am working on reducing the amount of medication I am taking.

Mel,

I have a liking for grilled food. As such, I am working to grill grass fed beef. High in Omega-3's and low in Omega-6's bring the right things to my body. I agree diet is the right thing to modulate the issues with ourselves...
