Time for new wheels. Need some input, 70 Mach 1

Its time for new rims/tires for a 70 Mach 1 fastback. I made my first intro post here for some backgroud.

Before the car can be drivable I need to get some new wheels on it and after searches and working with a local vendor I'm at a bit of a loss as to what Sizes I should, or can go. I definately want 18's. I really don't want to do any modifications to get a good fit so from what I have been reading I am pretty much set with 8's up front and 9's in the rear. With those width I did find a chart that says I can go 265 in the rear and 245 up front. Should I try to get as close to speedo accuracy with sidewall height at that point. At the local shot alot of guys go with a larger diameter but that isn't the look im going for. I will also play it pretty safe and am looking at just sticking with the torq thrust or that style of rim.

From what I have found it seems that a 255 40 18 in the rear and a 245 40 18 would give me the closest to stock diameter. Should this be a concern or should i go with the 265/245 combo.

Right now the car is yellow but the plan is to paint it black.

Im looking at chrome but also found some polished, opinions?

I like the look of gray rims on newer black mustangs but I am not sure how I would like it on a 70.

If prices are comporable I would rather purchase local but are their any places online people have worked with, forum sponsers perhaps?

Thanks.

i just bought new wheels for my 69. after looking online & getting the best price, i caled my guy at the local discount tire as they will price match. i would think about maybe moving up to a 275 on the rear. wider selection available with the 275 vs. 265 on the rear.

275/35 in the rear an 225/45/17 in the front. Rear bs is 5" but I have a Fors Granada 9" which is narrower than stock. I tried 285/40 but the rubbed the fender lip. The diameter was just too big for a 67/68 body.

My front wheels are 7" wide and 4" bs.

Would it then be safe to say I could get a 10" rim in as well since technically the tire would be wider anyway. Maybe even squeeze a 285 or should I just stick with the 275?

Here is what I was planning on ordering.

American Muscle 18x8's up front 245/40/18
American Muscle 18x9's in back 275/40/18

I was thinking the 275/40 would give me a bit more sidewall in the rear than the front but I could go to the 35 as well.

I decided to go with 17's. 275/40 on the rear and 245/45 up front. After finding this car it was the look I was going for.

I like the 18's but I had a 90's corvette with 17's 315 on the rear and 275 up front and the same sidewall height that I thought was perfect. I know, different car but for I think this will be what i'm looking for.

Thanks for the help. I will post some pics when they show up.

Mine with 17's.

Fronts are 245/40/17 (8" rim)
Rears are 275/40/17 (9" rim).

Sure you didn't mean Rears 315/35/17?
