As AzPete mentioned in another post, the '66 is now officially his, and on it's way to join up with him. Yes, it was a bitter sweet moment. I wondered if I would get sad when this day came, as I built this car from the ground up, starting back in February of 1999. It was my daily driver for about 8 years, and a damned good one at that. It went through one major rebuilt, one minor one, and one in-between one.
Funny enough, when Tracey asked me if I was sad to see it go, I honestly replied, "No. It is the right time, right now." I don't need the car. I would always rather work on Scary, drive Scary, spend money on Scary, etc. The poor '66, while I still think it's one extremely nice car, was being ignored, and I felt that was just wrong. So I was not sad (and if you hear rumors that they had to tie me to the front porch railing to load the car today, it's all lies, I tell you ... all lies!) I was happy to see it go to someone that I trust will continue to care for the car like I did, and continue to build it to where I would have liked to, if I didn't have Scary and my daughter's '67.
Today worked out well. The transporter company was supposed to call me Tuesday or yesterday giving me 24 hours notice. I was then planning to work from home on that day to get it loaded and on it's way. The told Pete, though, they were behind schedule and they may not pick it up until early next week. So I was shocked when they called me at 9:00 am, and said they'd be at the house by 1:00 or so this afternoon to pick it up. I ride 30 miles to work with a carpool, so this really put me in a tough spot. Fortunately, my former boss was leaving early today to go to a dental appointment and he lives down the street from me. So he was able to get me home by 1:40 and the transporter was there waiting on me. I didn't feel bad at all that they had to wait, since they didn't give me any real notice.
The driver's were very nice, though, and took great care of the car. Pete, you did pick the right company. These guys oohed and ahhed over the car before loading it up. They will accompany the car all the way to Panama City, which they live near to.
The route as I understand it will be I-5 south to the L.A. area, then over to I-40 east all the way into Nashville, TN. From there, they head south to Panama City via I-65 to U.S. 231. Dates are all up in the air. They say it will arrive at Pete's between the middle of next week and the end of next week. Part of the flexibility in the schedule is trying to coordinate with one of the other new owners that is fully paid, to pick up his car in Tennessee, although he lives in South Carolina, but will be out of state when the transporter arrives back in the area.
Here's a couple picks from today's pick up. If you're in the vicinity of the route, keep an eye out over the next couple of days and give Pete and I a heads up if you see it.
Pete, I'll send you a little bigger pics of all the ones I took today, via email.
Driving it to the trailer, parked across the street a little ways:

Check out the '59, right hand drive bug on the back. Truck leaving the neighborhood:
Eastbound and down, we're loaded up and truckin' ... last pic I'll take for probably quite some time. Enjoy it, Pete. I think you'll really like this car!
