Time to change the sig pic, I guess

As AzPete mentioned in another post, the '66 is now officially his, and on it's way to join up with him. Yes, it was a bitter sweet moment. I wondered if I would get sad when this day came, as I built this car from the ground up, starting back in February of 1999. It was my daily driver for about 8 years, and a damned good one at that. It went through one major rebuilt, one minor one, and one in-between one.

Funny enough, when Tracey asked me if I was sad to see it go, I honestly replied, "No. It is the right time, right now." I don't need the car. I would always rather work on Scary, drive Scary, spend money on Scary, etc. The poor '66, while I still think it's one extremely nice car, was being ignored, and I felt that was just wrong. So I was not sad (and if you hear rumors that they had to tie me to the front porch railing to load the car today, it's all lies, I tell you ... all lies!) I was happy to see it go to someone that I trust will continue to care for the car like I did, and continue to build it to where I would have liked to, if I didn't have Scary and my daughter's '67.

Today worked out well. The transporter company was supposed to call me Tuesday or yesterday giving me 24 hours notice. I was then planning to work from home on that day to get it loaded and on it's way. The told Pete, though, they were behind schedule and they may not pick it up until early next week. So I was shocked when they called me at 9:00 am, and said they'd be at the house by 1:00 or so this afternoon to pick it up. I ride 30 miles to work with a carpool, so this really put me in a tough spot. Fortunately, my former boss was leaving early today to go to a dental appointment and he lives down the street from me. So he was able to get me home by 1:40 and the transporter was there waiting on me. I didn't feel bad at all that they had to wait, since they didn't give me any real notice.

The driver's were very nice, though, and took great care of the car. Pete, you did pick the right company. These guys oohed and ahhed over the car before loading it up. They will accompany the car all the way to Panama City, which they live near to.

The route as I understand it will be I-5 south to the L.A. area, then over to I-40 east all the way into Nashville, TN. From there, they head south to Panama City via I-65 to U.S. 231. Dates are all up in the air. They say it will arrive at Pete's between the middle of next week and the end of next week. Part of the flexibility in the schedule is trying to coordinate with one of the other new owners that is fully paid, to pick up his car in Tennessee, although he lives in South Carolina, but will be out of state when the transporter arrives back in the area.

Here's a couple picks from today's pick up. If you're in the vicinity of the route, keep an eye out over the next couple of days and give Pete and I a heads up if you see it.

Pete, I'll send you a little bigger pics of all the ones I took today, via email.

Eastbound and down, we're loaded up and truckin' ... last pic I'll take for probably quite some time. Enjoy it, Pete. I think you'll really like this car!

Sure... driving it to the trailer, huh? To me, it looks like you pulled off one last donut before loading it on the trailer.

Here's wish the 66 a safe travel across the country!

Thanks for everything John.

I was ready to burn :bur a couple of banks on this deal. I was transferring money around when this deal came up. Once the decision was made, I asked two financial institutions to send the money in a form I could use it right away. Well, one held up their transaction while the other sent the money in the wrong fashion that delayed it. Such aggravating fun.....

Anyway, I finally got the money to John a bit later than planned. Glad he was not in a big rush to get the green stuff in his hands. Of course, dealing with a guy who is whispering on the phone makes one cautious...I could have used :!! to hear better...lol. Tracey was a real help there too.

My wife has constantly asked me if I felt good about buying a car sight unseen........first time ever for me. :scar John was very open with problems. When I opened each picture of "things", my wife asked is that ok. She did not like the chips in the windshield (on her side) and when those front frame rails came up, she asked again..... As I told her....not a problem. Paint issues are normal for drivers so we were pleased with the overall car. This one will get A/C soon also.

Now, what to do with two '66 Mustangs around.... The wife is not in a real rush to move the one which shocked me a bit. We want to sell it but not at hurried, reduced amount below our goal.

I will say that I most likely would not have done this deal sight unseen if it wasn't for the community here. I have never had so many good words said about a car as there was with this one. I feel very good about it and am patiently looking out the RV front window.....

Again, thanks John for an easy transition. This might well be the last Mustang I buy for a long time.

Looks like John removed the locker and went back to an open rear before it got picked up :ep

John,

Nice write up on your old 66. Azpete, check the rear end, I suspect there might be a wrench hanging on the rear end (left over from swapping out the locker for an open pumpkin).

I'll have to tow it myself (unless Matt re-appears) at Knotts in the 65/66 section.....

Wait a minute!!! I thought you sold it to Pete?

I remember when John brought it to one of our first car shows. And actually was the first time I met him. Congrats on the car Pete. John did a great job on it.
