Tire prices dropping?

In a couple few months I will be needing new shoes for the 07 Mustang. It still has the factory BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS 235/50ZR18. I am only going to get 25K out of them, but they are over 5 years old. So I have been looking at some Continental 275/45ZR18. Now I do not remember the exact price per tire, but all 4 were in the neighborhood of 850. I just checked tonight and a set of 4 is 468. :yah Yes I am going to have to pay 60 bucks for shipping and another C note for mounting and balancing. But the point is why did the price drop? The last time that I checked was back in November.

Those are discontinued. Tires in general are going up. Close outs are your friend. In the spring Big-o will likely have a buy 2 get 2 sale going. I can sell to you and ship to your local store.

They're down to 100 each now.

You really putting 275s all the way around? Matching 255s are 199. :wtf

They were delivered on Friday, and I put them up in the garage rafters until I need them. The price was too good to pass up.

Tim -- Like Mel said, they are generally going up...and rising pretty quickly. For instance, just 3 years ago I could get tires for my pickup for 90 bucks each. No more. The start at about 140 and go up.

I'm looking for some 205/60-15s for the Cyclone and those things are now between 80 and 100 bucks. I have no idea why the prices are rising...but they are.

I remember when I could buy a new tire and have it mounted and balanced for $12 each. Of course, back then, they were warranted for only 10,000 miles and were bias-ply...

You know, lately, I have seen several cars with blow outs in the city. I haven't seen bad tires in years, and then 3 in a month. One thing that struck me as odd was the smell from one of those tires was exactly like the smell from the little sticky squishy toys that my 8yo gets from Peter Piper Pizza. They smell like raw petroleum rubber. It got me thinking that maybe some tires are being made in China and then it made me think of the drywall recall with the acidic material used in it's Mfg, then the poison dog food, and the poison baby formula...maybe I'm just thinking too much, but that smell was quite distinct, and exactly like that "made in China" sticky squishy toy...hmm?

There are only a couple tires made in USA. I hate buying asian tires. Khumo and the Korean counter parts are just as bad.

The Jap tires are better, french tires are great, but by far the best is USA.

Sumitomo has a 100000 mile warranty. Saw them when getting a flat fixed.

Chinese tires should be avoided at all costs!
