Took My Son Hunting Yesterday

Me and my two boys went deer hunting yesterday. We all had a good time. Nice and cool, around 36 in the early AM, then up to about 62 in the afternoon. All in all, a great day. It was my youngest son's 1st time. He was a good sport freezing his little butt off. It was nice to spend the whole day with the boys and not have to worry about anything else. I think we'll go again next Saturday. Didn't get a deer, but I'd say a bad day huntin' is better than a good day at work all the time!

He told me, "Dad, if there's one out there, I'll see em."

This is what you get when you wake up an 11 year old at 4AM and take him hunting in the morning, then feed him a hot breakfast before going back to the stand.

So, like I said, all in all, a great day. As for the deer, they got one up today, but they better be on the look out next Saturday too :guns

First time is great for kids.

I remember when I was younger I bugged my folks for years to take me hunting. But my step dad (wisely in hindsight) made me wait till I was 12 or 13 to go hunting. The first year he sat in the stand with me, the next year I started getting to fly solo.

It was somewhere shortly after my first year that they bought me the 6 mm that I still have to this day....

Unfortunately, I don't really ever go hunting any more due to a lack of a place to go. We used to have a place to go for free when I was a kid because one of my step dad's old rodeo buddies owned a big place north of here. Leases are expensive and with all the idiots out there the national forest is taking your life in your own hands.

Never been hunting=/ Family just isn't into firearms, so I was never introduced to them as a kid.

I could use a day off to go fishing, though...

I killed my first deer at 11---probably the clearest memory I can conjour up, I lived to deer hunt for about the next 30 years, burned out and haven't went for 10 years, still was a great time as a youngster, he will never forget his "first"! (deer either)
