Top 10 FlyBys...WILD!

#3 I would like to see what that felt like. :ecit #2 That was just insane that big and that low. :scar And #1 was just way too cool. :coo :coo :coo :coo fd

When I was aboard the USS Enterprise we watched an F-14A do a fly by. From the flight deck all we could see were the rear vertical stabilizers, about mid ship he went vertical and we could hear the sonic boom. It was pretty cool. Also saw a couple cool crashes in my time. Saw an A4 land on his drop tanks in Key West when he had a landing gear problem. Watched an F14 blow a main mount tire when it grabbed the wire aboard the USS America and saw another F14 go off the runway on landing in Fallon NV, F'd that one up pretty good. Saw an F14 that flew into a flock of geese.....yuk

I have to agree that #3 was awesome. Being that close, your internal organs must rattle around your rib cage.

If y'all wanna see the #1 fly by in person, come to the San Francisco Fleet Week in Oct. The Blue Angles perform over the SF Bay. I've gone 3 or 4 times, and it never ceases to amaze me.

Those are good.

Back in the 60's, I worked for my brother-in-law who custom farmed the ground around the Sioux City, Iowa airport. The Thunderbirds would come in every summer or so and practice over the fields I was working in. There were no restrictions on their flight patterns or the level of them since the airport was in the middle of farm country. Many times I would have to stop the tractor because I could not see for the dust they would stir up. They scared the heck out of me on several occasions. I talked to a couple of pilots one day when they were in a local restaurant commenting on how close they came to that tractor around the runway. We had a good laugh. Those were some real special "private" shows that I still remember.

When were you on the Enterprise and America? My dad served on both.

I was only on them for about 3-4 weeks apiece for carrier quals. Would have been between 87-91. I was in a reserve squadron so we got to do the short pleasure cruises. Usually cod'ed us on and off if the ships were not in port. We actually boarded the Enterprise, when we got on the ship in Norfolk it was the first time that a Russian ship had been in a US port in like a bazillion years or something. We got to see some of the Russian sailors as they escorted them to and from the Commissary on the base. Actually spent time on 3 carriers, America, Enterprise (twice), and the Eisenhower

Those were ALL great !! #3 should have blown the man over . . . #2 was very cool too. Thanks for posting !

I have a customer just outside of the Travis AFB. Just before labor day or maybe memorial day the Thunderbirds were practicing for an air show. They were flying so low it shook the building. The guys who work there say they go out and watch from the roof so we did. It was pretty cool!
