Toyota Tech - '07 RAV4

Check engine, VSC, swerve/slide lights came on today for my wife's car, a 2007 Toyota RAV4 4-cylinder. I also hear an air leak when I press the brakes. The leak gets louder as you gradually press the brake harder. I also went thru a foot of water yesterday, but didn't notice any lights until the next morning. I read on the Toyota forums, it may have to do with sensors, and they used a ODBC code reader to find the problem. Should I buy this code reader before handing it out to the dealer or mechanic?

I know one of you are a Toyota tech and can maybe help me out before I get royally screwed at the dealership. Sluggo?!

BTW, I like the new forum layout.

Is it an all wheel drive?

Where are you located?

The check engine light is probably on due to a VSC malfunction.

See if Auto zone can pull codes for you and then text them to me.

PM enroute.

I got the booster free by removing the master cylinder, part below... maybe the ABS computer, nuts holding the booster under the dash, pin and coupler connected to the threaded push rod of the booster. I'm wiggling the booster in all possible angles, but it still can't come out! It looks like it hits the cowl overhang. Can that component be removed?

Is that even possible anymore?

Yes, but just barely.

Selling to the gov, I have to deal with the BAA all the time. Every day that passes I see more products coming from China and Taiwan.

Well, it took about 10 hours to replace the brake booster and bleed brakes. I didn't have a repair manual, so it took longer to figure out what needs to come out. If I took it to the dealership, they would want $1100 to fix... $660 for booster and 4 hours labor. I only paid for a re-manufactured version ~$340 with core charge.

The hardest part that got me peeved was removing the ABS - anti-lock computer box below the master cylinder. There were 3 bolts to the frame. I had to go underneath the car, find the bolts with a flashlight, and use both my hands to reach around the front drive axle.
