Track wheels

Looking to buy a set of track wheels to mount track tires. I just saw this listing on craig's list and they are local to me. Would these be good for track wheels? If not what size wheel should I be looking for? Also what size tire which are not too expensive. I will probably only run two or three ride-and-drive tracks event per year.

For a track wheel, you are probabaly going to want to avoid running wheels that require adapters. Small spacers may be fine, but not sure the bolt on adapters would be good for track use.

Disregard... I thought the picture of the V6 wheels in the post is what you were referring too. I'd imagine those wheels in the cragslist add would be fine. Just confirm the backspace is correct.
 
I decided I didn't want to run the old 1970's wheels on Craig's list could be questionable quality. Looked into a complete track wheel and tire setup and that would be about $850. A little steep for one or two track days per year. I now am planning on running the current wheels 16"x 7" with the adapters and the current tires. Many people are running wheel adapters with no problem both on the street and the track. If I wear out the tires then I will have to make another decision about tire sizes. Thoughts?

I suppose adapters could be used, although I'm not a fan of them for track use. There's a ton of stress put on everything during a track day. That said, it's fine to run what you have, especially if you're a newb on the track. Harder street tires will give way at slower speeds which will allow you to learn the feel of the car and traction limits without the real high speeds that can be attained with sticky rubber.

I ran on shit street tires for 2 full years before I went to R comp tires. There's a HUGE difference in traction.

Also, running all 4 corners the same size will allow you to rotate and flip the tires on the wheels which will get you the biggest bang for your dollars.
 
This will be only my second time to the track. This is a Ride-and-Drive event so it is not fender to fender racing. Still a few months away. I really appreciate your input Mark. I will keep looking for track wheels.

The track tires I have looked at are directional, Hankook and Nitto. Flipping sides involves having the tires remounted and balanced, right?

Yes, well worth the time and money. Get every mile you can out of track tires. FYI, if you get a set of dedicated track tires/wheels, get at least one extra in case you have a blowout/puncture. Sucks to lose out on track time cause you only have 3!
