Transmission Indecision. Help?

I have three different transmissions and I dunno what to do. I have a good (?) Toploader, an AOD with suspicious looking fluid, and a T5 full of metal shavings.

My dilemma is that I can't (legally) drive stick, and I have several people interested in the AOD. AODs are expensive to rebuild and I have 2.80 gears, so I'm halfway tempted to find a C4, or use the toploader for now and overcome the legal BS.

WWSD? :gs :gs :gs

Indecision may or may not be my problem. :peter

Ok, I have to ask. Why are you not allowed to drive a manual? I have NEVER heard of such a thing.

I would assume it's due to an injury or disability.

If that's in fact the case, Go with the AOD.

Manuals are fun but they kinda suck when you have an injured foot or leg.

If that is true, sell the toploader and T5 and put that money into rebuilding the auto drag.

Bingo. More precisely, it's because the drivers exam station here is full of arseholes and the examiner's observation that "you walk funny" suddenly turned into a restricted license.

Hacks me off to think about it, Ohio Revised Code is fairly specific as to how disabled you have to be to get a restricted license and I don't really fit their description of disabled. Axehole didn't even care to hear that I can drive stick, just up and gave me a disabled license. :censored :censored :censored

I have to retake my drivers test in a manual trans car, but I can get a regular license.

No shame with an AOD. Much better than a C4. I have one of those boat anchors in my garage and can't seem to make it go away.

Sell the toploader and the T5 and freshen up the AOD and put it in.

Can I assume there is no tranny currently in the car? And if so, was the previous running tranny a stick or auto? I'm asking this because of wondering if you have a clutch pedal in the car. If not and more importantly if you legally cannot run a stick, YES for the AOD. Red is running an AOD and we love the great gas mileage.

Something to consider no matter what tranny you decide on is maybe swapping out the 2.80 for a 3.25 or 3.55 rear end. Currently Red is running a 3.0 and to me the car is a little too doggy off the line and right before I clicked onto your post here, I was online running a gear calculator to see what RPMs I'll be running if I go with 3.55 gears.

With your 2.80 gear running 25" tires and a AOD at 70mph you will be turning only 1765 RPM. I'd expect your power curve is more around 2200 - 2400 RPM. With our current 3.0 gears, were turning only 1891. Thus if I go with 3.55, we'll be turning around 2200 RPM.

I know with today's gas prices the above is probably a crazy suggestion. But unless the car will be your DD, make it fun to drive.
