Anyone give an answer to a stupid question???

What size ubolt for 9" rear, big bearing 3" axle tube. Also have 4.5 leaf springs.

So does one buy a 3" Ubolt, or a slightly larger Ubolt like 3 1/8 or 3 1/4???

Grade 5 or 8??? and what size threads???

Stopped at Napa today, and they have 3" x 7" for 22.00/ea.

Meanwhile on Currie website they have them for 7.00/ea I believe, but they are grade 8, and not sure on the length.....but they also have 3 1/4. I will try them tomorrow, but trying to find answer before the morning. And currie doesn't quote shipping on their website until the item is shipped....grrrr

Thanks John,

I figured it out of course after posting, Then found a local place, got a set of 4 for 15.00. Also found out if you need special size, some trailer places will make 'em to your specs. Kinda helpful...

I'll be doing the same upgrade soon...I suppose I'm going to need new spring-plates, too, won't I? My current axle has the tapers, the 9" that I am working does not have the tapers.

On the 65 & 66 you can elongate the holes in the shock plates for the 3" u-bolts. The 67's you can not, there isn't enough meat on 'em.

Doh! My '66 coupe is running a '67 8" complete with '67 shock/spring plates. I pulled the rear out of a junkyard 67 to replace my 7.5" stocker, so I grabbed the plates too. Oh well thanks for the answer.
