Upgradeing parts.

So if your upgrading parts to say Stage 3, lets just say I wanted to upgrade my clutch in my 73 Mach 1 to a stage 3 racing clutch. What all would I need to upgrade because the thing to break would be the next weakest link. So what all would have to be changed?
 
"Stage 3" is a generic term and doesn't actually mean anything specific.

What are you trying to accomplish? Is this a drag car? What drivetrain combo do you have?

Keep in mind, racing style clutches without marcel springs have a VERY hard engagement and are subsequently very hard on drivetrain components, not to mention passengers.
 
Stage 3 clutch would be too harsh on the street, FYI. I have the Spec Stage 2, which is a Kevlar based clutch but is still the marcel spring type clutch. I think my clutch is good for up to 600hp, so it will take a pretty good motor to fry this one (or boost). Once you get into the puck style clutch is when they become a bit harsh for the street. HTH

Then I'll just go with a spec stage 2 clutch. Im just trying to build a car that will be good for track/street. And be able to keep up with quite a few vehicles.
 
Probably a smart move. The Kevlar will last longer than a carbon clutch. I don't have any issues with streetability with the Stage 2 clutch. I'm even running an aluminum flywheel, which takes A LOT of getting used to but I'm liking it so far (I don't recommend for a daily driver though!!!)

It all depends on what you want to do with your car. If you're running a mouse motor then AutoZone has what you need just get OEM replacement stuff. If you're running Top Fuel than call Lanny Maglizzi and have him build you a nice 6 disc clutch pack and you'll be good to about 5,000 HP. :shrug
 
I am using a Fidanza 3.2 Kevlar clutch. It is very smooth and I don't have any clutch chatter. It is holding up to my boosted motor with 555 rwhp. I am not sure why I chose it over a Spec clutch, may have had a better price through CJ Pony Parts at the time. I am happy with the purchase. I used the same clutch on my last motor which was only about 400 at the wheels. It felt just as smooth with that engine as it does with the new one.

Daily driver/Strip. I plan to eventually be using all 600 horsepower that the EFI Fuel injection kit will support.

If you are gonna max it out to 600 you may consider the Stage 2+. The Stage 2 is claimed to handle 567ft-lbs and the 2+ handles 635.
