urgent help required power brake booster

Moving along trying to find my problem with the sticking brake pedal i took out the booster today and there was a see pic metal rubber thing inside the booster that the master cyl pushrod goes through it wasnt sitting right,i took it out now can anyone tell me which way would that go into the booster flat end first or the raised end.Also how far into the master cyl should the booster pushrod sit,i seem to have alot of space inside master cyl before pushrod make contact with master cyl piston.thanks javed

I've never seen that part before but have never disassembled a booster. Do you know the brand or maker of the booster? Midland, Bendix, aftermarket?

The button end of the pushrod should be snapped into the MC piston or making contact with the end at least. What MC do you have, which rod are you using, which pedal? All of them are basically different from manual to power and drum to disc, has any of the 3 parts been changed? The pushrod should push the MC piston as soon as you touch the brake pedal basically. You may have the wrong MC or pushrod length.

the booster i have is the clamp band type one for the 68 mustang came with pedal push rod/master cyl push rod.The brake pedal is a 69 70 power brake cant remember which one exactly.master is one for power disc brakes which is what i have.
 
This was between the M/C and the booster, or actually inside the booster? I've never seen a piece like that between the two, so if it's from inside the booster then I'm of no help.
