vent window stud?

Well dang, I was adjusting the vent window tensioner inside the door and broke the drivers side. The passenger side adjusted just fine, but the drivers side was so dang tight that it broke the stud when I put enough pressure to loosen it. Is just the stud replacable or do I have to get an entire vent window frame with the stud on the bottom? It's on my 66 coupe so I guess I am screwed. What I don't get is that when I restored the car and put the vent windows into the door, I adjusted them where they were like butter. But over the last 7 or 8 years or so, they have gotten very hard to open/close without whacking them. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks, gary.

The stud is welded to the stainless frame. I broke one of mine too, was going to weld it but just ended up getting another one and swapped out the glass. I don't think you need to take the whole assembly out of the door so long as you can reach the adjusting nut.

If you end up swapping the glass, you'll need 1/16" glass setting tape. The swap is pretty easy to do.

after you replace/rebuild, coat the stud/spring/nut assy with a good coat of lithium grease. that will keep them running smoothly for a long time. lack of lubrication is what causes them to bind up & break.

Yeah, I looked it up in NPD and it's like $60 for that small glass holding pivot piece. Yuuckkk! :fbomb

Well, when I originally put everything together I did spray the crap out of them but I guess it doesn't last forever. Oh well, gives me something to do while it's still cold out...lol. :beat

I just swapped out a broken vent window on a 67 and I wouldn't recomend doing it with the assembly in the door. It's not that hard to yank it out and lot easier to work on when it's out. If the 67 is the same I have one (DS) with no glass... let me know if you want it.

I have one laying around for free but shipping cost to the states will be out of proportion i guess.
Don't know if it is left or right. If interested sent me a mail .

I really appreciate the offer, but it would probably be more trouble than it's worth to get something from Belgium to Alabama...lol. Thanks anyway.

I'm thinking about welding it back on, but I don't know if it will hold up to the stress of repeated opening and closing so I guess I'll just get a new one anyway. :beat

You mean that you actually use your vent window? Never really did use them. In fact the passenger side vent has a 65-66 wing window lock on it. It was a quick fix that I did shortly after I got in it 1975. Maybe some day I will fix it. fd

I use mine! In fact with no AC we all (wife and kids) wonder why cars don't still have them!!! They work great...

I have one I can send you. Only problem is it's missing the shaft that the latch handle goes on. I think it's broken. Does anyone know if that's replaceable with the glass out? If so, you could take that piece out of yours and install it in mine.
